wav to MP3 creates larger file

Hello.

I am trying to convert a 11 mb wav file to a MP3 sound file. Unfortunately, after the conversion the MP3 file is 42 mb. Any ideas on why this is happening?

The wave file must have already contained compressed data, perhaps even mp3 data to begin with. Hold the mouse over the wave file, what ever the settings, try to reproduce them in the mp3 file.
