    Problems in File Converter

I downloaded the R11.5 version, I hoped to see a new feature there as my wish was deleted from the Wishlist section

Alas it's not there, but when testing I found that MC/File Selector did not copy my ID tags! I convert from FLAC to Vorbis. The vorbistags are there in the FLAC file, but not in the Vorbis files... Anyone else seen this problem?

I've tested dbPowerAMP MC to sync different music directories from my FLAC master directory... so far with with little success. Losing tags and with little target directory control, I'm afraid MC is not for me -- even if I want it to be There is some good stuff in the package after all.

Do note that there is a bug being worked on regarding FLAC flags. I'm not sure if it affects reading, but it is known to affect writing.

Can you convert to other formats and keep the tags?

Doesn't affect reading, hold the mouse over the FLAC file, are ID Tags shown? hold over the ogg file are there tags?

        Re: Problems in File Converter

I assume you mean holding the mouse over the files in Windows Explorer? Yes, there is a Windows shell extension installed on my machine (by dbPowerAMP), so I can see that there are tags in the FLAC files, but not in the Vorbis files. I also load the files in Quintessential, and there I can see and edit the tags in the FLACs and not in the Vorbises. The converted files have no tags in them at all, dmPowerAMP tag shell extension does not kick in on the files at all.

I Use the "Ogg Vorbis aoTuV b3 SSE2" plugin for Vorbis. I have also reinstalled this codec after installing R11.5. The FLAC files are made from EAC with FLAC 1.1.2 from RareWares.

This is what I just tried:

I converted one FLAC and one MP3 to Ogg Vorbis. ID-tags are lost.
I converted one FLAC and one MP3 to WAV. ID-tags are preserved.

I cannot use MP3 as target, as my trial expired, and I only intend to use MP3 and Vorbis as targets from my FLAC repository.

It looks to me that something is lost when going to Ogg Vorbis. The ID-tags was preserved when running R11, so I would guess that something has changed in how R11.5 pass parameters to the Vorbis plugin... but that's just an educated guess. Might be wrong of course.

Please tell me if there is anything else you want me to try.

Aha, that is the problem. You need to install the regular Ogg Vorbis codec too to preserve tags. Also, there is now a new aoTuV b4 codec in the Beta forum here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=8823
          From Codec Central (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-ogg.htm):
Decodes [none: Standard Ogg required to write ID Tags]

Ah, good... will get and install that too then, just to verify that it solves the problem.

Now, if spoon can find time for better target directory control before christmas

Edit: Installing the original Ogg Vorbis plugin did indeed solve the problem.

Heck, life is too short to wait for new features Even if dbPowerAMP is not perfect, it's the best solution I've found and I don't have time to cobble together a scripted solution. So I just bought it, it's cheap as dirt anyway

Thanks Spoon for your time and effort.

I don't think your original wishlist got erased, it is just filed a little further back.

Speaking of improvements you do not have to wait for:
                Spoon has a new Flac codec in the beta section to address reported problems with writing Flac ID tags (you can check this out here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...82#post44882);
Spoon also has a Multi-Encoder Utility codec that would allow you to rip/convert tracks to different formats and/or different locations. It looks like this feature might help out with your wishlist item. You can also find this in the Beta sectioon of the Forum. The one identified problem to date seems to be that the Multi-Encoder Utility codec does not seem to be able to handle the Gereric CLI Encoder. You can find the Multi-Encoder Utility codec here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=8314

                Best wishes,
                Bill

Yes, now that I've decided that dbPowerAMP is the way ahead, I will look closer on the various plugins and utilities available.

After all, there's more to it than just a simple format converter.
