    CD ripping issues

I am trying to rip a CD and am having some difficulty. When I close the disk drive, it spins and looks like it's reading it, but when Windows Explorer is opened, there is no data there, nor is dbPowerAmp recognizing that there is a disk in the drive.

I have tried this with another disk and it works fine. But what's wrong with this particular disk? I checked the surface of the disk and it is absolutely crystal clear, no scratches whatsoever (it was recently purchased).

What is going on? Is this CD just not rippable?

    Thank you so very much

    Probably it's copy-protected.

Look at the DRM forum for tips. http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Instead of looking for files in Explorer, make sure you are using 'Audio CD Input', normal extended CDs do not give audio files in Explorer.

If you are using Audio CD Input, make sure you have the right drive selected in Options. Also, click the "Settings" button next to the drive selection and tell us what it says for the Communication Set.

          The communication set is MMC.

The CD is a second disk in a two-disk set. I actually had a lot of trouble ripping the first, so I went a little overboard and reformatted my drive. It worked, but unfortunately the second disk will not either.

The CDs were released in 2000.

Try the arrow next to Options >> Standard CD Player Emulation >> Table of Contents Detection

Sorry, I mean the option above the Communication Set.

Thanks for the help, but still no worky.

I don't know what's going on. It's definitely the CD; other CDs work fine.

For some reason it's making the computer think there is no CD in the drive, which is untrue, so it's not a dbpoweramp thing.

Oh well. I'm going to see if I can play around with some settings and get it to work.

                Thanks!

Can you play that cd in a player like Windows Media Player?

Nope. Every program I've tried to run doesn't recognize a disk in the drive.

How old is your CD Drive? Does the light come on and the drive spin-up when you insert a CD?

So it looks like that cd is not readable in your drive.

Did you try it in another computer?

The drive is about three years old; yes, the light comes on and it acts like it's reading but it doesn't.

Have you tried using something like ARay Scanner which may be able to determine what type of protection the CD uses. It is available from www.aray-software.com.

P.S. I have, however, never used this software myself on Audio CDs mainly due to the fact that I have never bought any protected audio CDs (so far).

I have a 'DualDisc' Audio CD (one side is DVD Audio, other is standard audio cd), but the CD is thicker and certain CD drives wouldn't even recognize there was a disc in the drive.
