Do I still have to buy the MP3 convertor if....

    Hi,
I already have an mp3 convertor with sound forge and cool edit pro.

Do i still need to by one for dp POWER AMP or can I use one of my other convertors with dppoweramp?

    Thanks,
    Woody

I don't believe you can have dMC directly interface with these mp3 encoders.
Also, note that even if you have a license to encode to mp3 in another program, that doesn't cover any other program. For instance, owning SoundForge doesn't give you blanket rights to encode to mp3 in any program you wish. You still have to purchase a separate license for programs such as dMC.

You might manage to use those other encoding codecs by making your own CLI encoder (see http://www.dbpoweramp.com/developer-cli-encoder.htm ), if you feel like getting into this.

Woody, although Sound Forge gives some support for the mp3 format, I think, firstly, that it will be an extra stage in the conversion process, and secondly, I'm not at all sure that you can use it as an out-and-out convertor. I don't have the latest release (version 8) of S.F., but in my case, it will not output from wave to mp3.
More to the point, though, is the fact that unless you have the dMC mp3 licence, you will forego the highly useful facility of right click on a file name and being able to select 'convert to' mp3. This alone is worth the paltry amount that Spoon asks, to cover the licence fee for the mp3 codec. (To be honest, I'm surprised that he is able to cover the cost of the Thompson licence by charging us only that amount, and there's nothing in it for him, I should add). To belabour the point perhaps, when you look at the price of Sound Forge, ($299), why quibble about the dB licence fee - it's a mere drop in the ocean?
