ripping to OGG - files auto-delete!!

    hi

when i rip from CD to OGG the files just didn't appear !

so i ripped with the explorer window open and saw the files are written and then deleted (i can confrim this is what is happening with my mirroring soft which keeps a log and confirms that a file delete operation is taking place)

the files don't end up in the recycle bin either

    and ideas anyone?

this only happens with OGG btw and i have uninstalled and reinstalled the codec and dbAMP

    thanks

    Curious.
My first suspiscion is that perhaps you are seeing a temporary folder being created and the Ogg files are just in a different spot than you thought (although this does not explain why you are seeing this just with Ogg). Acting on that guess, have you tried using your system's search function to confirm that these files are not elsewhere on your system?

Assuming that they are not there, do you have the standard Ogg codec installed?
Are you using the standard Ogg codec or one of the others (if so, which one)?
What settings are you using for your Ogg encoding?
If you open Audio CD Input and click on options, what options do you have set for file creation and rip to folder?
If you ripped from cd to wave can you convert the wave to Ogg?
Do your tracks' titles/information have any characters that are not standard in English?

Perhaps with this information we can get a handle on your problem.

    Best wishes,
    Bill

The files are definitely not elsewhere. I have tried changing the folder the files are written to and have watched them (in explorer) appear then vanish ! This only happens with OGG (i can rip to WMA for eg)

Yes, from the dbAMP website. If I try and use the updated OGG codec from the site (SSE2 is it) the files don't even appear !!

no! same error occurs (ie appears to write file, then deletes)

      no

now the real kicker is that this USED to all work, with all of the above settings

since it last worked the only thing i can think that i have installed is a netwrk HDD (NDAS device). i confess i am not 100% on this as soft is on and off the PC all the time!!

sorry i'm not being too helpful here !! my bad ! :o

the full path is D:\My Music\OGG

          more weirdness.........

i tried to rip 6 tracks off a CD today, to D:\My Music\OGG\Temp (just so i could see them easily \OGG is very full!)

the first track started to write....then was deleted and/or replaced by the second....and that by the third...and so on until the last (6th) replaced the 5th and then was in turn deleted at the end - to be left with only an empty folder and a puzzled frown !!

          thanks

What is your file creation method? Are you making file names that have any sort of variable field in them? Otherwise the all end up with the same file name and one would overwrite the previous one and so on.

However check this thread too and see if your case is similar: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...3122#post43122

Is your D: drive another HDD in your computer or the NAS drive?

Re: ripping to OGG - files auto-delete!!

                D: is a local HDD

i'm convinced now this is an OS issue - to wit i installed on a much 'cleaner' XP SP2 PC and, of course, it works fine

i can rip on this machine and transfer across the LAN to the 'player' PC, so no major crisis

but it DID used to work fine and , other than installing various pieces of soft and 1 bit of hardware (with drivers) since it last worked, i've changed no internal settings in dbAMP

so something i did broke it - and in such a way that uninstalling/reinstalling don't fix it

                except.....

i doubt i did a very comprehensive uninstall, so the next question is

'how do i totally remove all trace of dbAMP?'

i can do that, reinstall and if it's still broke then it's an OS file/setting corrupted or incompatible

i'm guessing here but some registry setting?

From CD Input click the Rip menu and select Rip with options, then click rename to show which files are to be written.

                        thanks spoon

when i do that it certainly appears that the names etc are all correct - as downloaded from freeDB

i'll try the complete uninstall/reinstall tonight and see how it goes

                        thanx
