    FLAC file won't convert properly

For some reason, a particular FLAC file that I have will not convert porperly to mp3. The progress meter jumps from 3% to 50% and the rusultant mp3 file is only the first few seconds of the song. So far this is the only song I have seen this happen to, but since there is no error thrown, it really shakes my confidence in the qulaity of the files that dbpowerAMP produces since it lets this happen without even a peep. :thumbdown

How about you post as many details about your input file specifications as you can (including origin of the FLAC file, what created it) and those of your requested output mp3.

Also, do you have a unexpired trial or a registered version of dMC? In case it's a matter of expired mp3 encoder license.

Have you tried a Test Conversion (no write)? if that doesn't work there's something wrong with your FLAC file probably.

Re: FLAC file won't convert properly

      Assuming you don't have a problem relating to expired mp3 encoder license;
if the test conversion does work try either:
      converting the Flac file to wave (and wave to mp3);
converting the Flac file to mp3 but turning off the option to preserve id tags.

Keep us posted on what you find. The details that Christina asked about in terms of your input and output files would be helpful also. Unless your problem specifically relates to tag info (in which case the conversion from flac to mp3 will work with the option to preserve tag info turned off but not when it is turned on), it would still be helpful to us for you to post the details about your input and output files even if flac to wav and wav to mp3 works. So do keep us posted if you can.

Likewise, if it is a problem with the tag information, please let us know that as Spoon is currently trying to address some problems that have been reported by some users with Flac tags.

      Best wishes,
      Bill

I am only have an issue on this one song file. All the other song files convert fine. I tried to simply decode the file to WAV and get a similar result. Songs were ripped with EAC and then encoded using FLAC off of sourceforge. Here is a snippet from the EAC with info from the offending track:

EAC extraction logfile from 6. April 2005, 15:20 for CD
        Beck / Guero

        Used drive : SONY DVD+RW DW-P50A Adapter: 1 ID: 0
Read mode : Secure with NO C2, accurate stream, disable cache
        Read offset correction : 120
        Overread into Lead-In and Lead-Out : No

Used output format : Internal WAV Routines
        44.100 Hz; 16 Bit; Stereo

        Other options :
Fill up missing offset samples with silence : Yes
Delete leading and trailing silent blocks : No
Native Win32 interface for Win NT & 2000

        ....

        Track 6
        Filename C:\Documents and Settings\Proprietario\Desktop\Beck - Guero (2005) [FLAC] (Deluxe Edition)\06 - Earthquake Weather .wav

        Pre-gap length 0:00:00.62

        Peak level 98.8 %
        Track quality 100.0 %
        Test CRC F728672D
        Copy CRC F728672D
        Copy OK

        ...

        The FLAC fingerprint is:
        06 - Earthquake Weather .flac:5882404ef07c173f99e56a83afa04115

Here is the tag info you when you mouseover:

What is your drive Q: ? Is that a CD-rom drive? Are you trying to direct the output to the same folder as original file?

Also did you try to use dMC and select as a coded Test Conversion (no write) ?

Also, as Bill said, did you try converting without preserving tag information?

Converting FLAC to WAV has similar results, as does the Test Conversion (no write.)

Unchecking "Preserve ID3 Tags" does not change the situation. (This option doesn't seem to work for me anyway.)

Drive Q: is a USB drive.

I presume that you cannot play that FLAC file in dAP either.

Then it looks like the file is not OK, at least as far as dMC is concerned. What plays it?

If you don't have it, install the latest dMC beta (R11.5) from the beta section and perhaps refresh the Flac codec as well, from Codec Central.

It is possible for files to become corrupted, check the flac file out using a different audio program...

These are files from all kinds of sources, old and new. The files are definitely not corrupted. Besiudes, I am not sure what other program that I could use that would convert FLAC to MP3 (VBR) and preserve ID3 tags. Any suggestions?

This happens for any files that I try. I aslo upgraded to R11.5 but the same thing is happening.

Also note it happens for FLAC, MP3, and SHN sources so I suspect the source type is not the issue.

Click DSP Effects and make sure no DSP effects are running.
