    dMC auxillary input

When we use the Auxillary Input program to record musics as it plays in another player, what kind of sound quality do we get?

Is it an analog recording or digital recording?

I think its a digital copy of what the soundcard is outputting, albiet before it hits the digital-to-analog converters. However, I think Spoon would be the final source on this.

Auxilary input allows you to record to standard wave or to whatever dB codecs you have installed (although converting to standard wave works best followed by conversion to the format of your choice). The quality of the sound depends on the quality of your source (old scratchy lps will produce files that sound like old scratchy lps), your soundcard, and your choice of recording format and the settings you choose (if you record directly to 64 kbs mp3 the quality will be much less than if you recorded to a standard wave file).

All recording through auxilary input is digital in nature but recording from analog sources (tapes or lps) will still sound like analog recorded audio (as LtData pointed out, it will be a digital recording of what the soundcard is outputting).

      Best wishes,
      Bill

Now, I wonder about the beginning and end of the track lapses. As I understand, we have to operate manually a player and the Auxiliary Input consecutively to record a song. If there is any delay in clicking the Record button before and after playing the track, there will be a quiet time in the track. Am I right?

Right, but using the PowerPack, it has a "SmartStart" feature. Also, you could use a free sound-file editor, such as Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) to edit the silence out of your WAV files.

Again, is this program can be used for recording VoIP telephone conversations?

The program will record anything that the soundcard can output or anything that is put into the "Line In" or microphone jacks on your soundcard.

                  Thank you very much.

Now, I tried to record a sound source form the Internet, but didn't record it. It created a file as I specified and shows the size of the file as few MB, but no sound at all.

Is it possible to record sound directly from the internet as it plays? Or I am not doing it right?

Its possible, yes. Try following the instructions linked to below and then reply if you still can't figure it out.

                      Re: dMC auxillary input

Please help me with this. I couldn't record the sound as it plays from the Internet.

This is what I have done:

In the dMP Auxiliary Input, under option, the "Record using" was displayed as "default". The first try was not successful with that, so I changed it to the sound card name from the pull down menu, but didn’t help.

Two square buttons for “Auto start and end” are unchecked, and I don't know what is meant by "10% for 750 ms"

Then I clicked the Input Source button, the Windows’ recording control pane came up ( I am using XP pro sp2). There are four volume controls namely, MIDI, CD Audio, Line-In, Microphone, where nothing is muted.

I selected “Wave” for the first trial and then mp3 for the second trial from the pull down menu next to the record button, then clicked the Record button, which popped up two small panes with VU meter green light blinking in small size. Then I started the sound from the Internet and clicked the Record button. I saw the recording time changing but the green light splash remained the same that means no sound input, I guess.

Afer one minute I stopped it and went back to the file location to play it in Winamp that is my default player, but no sound but the slide bar is moving in the Winamp as ususal.

                      Now, what should I do?

Your Volume Controls don't contain all the different options that are available. Right click the volume icon that you should see in the task bar, bottom right of the screen, and select Open Volume Control. Then click Options > Advanced Controls and also Properties. Then select Recording and you'll see a drop down list for all the possible sources of input. Select all of them so they will all be available on the subsequent screen. There you can finally select the proper input. Depending on your sound card it may be Stereo Mix or What U Hear or other similar input source. Make sure the volume slider is 2/3 of the way up.

Under recording Control, there are MIDI, CD Audio, Line-in, Microphone, PC Speaker. No other controls in that pulldown menu of recording. All of them have been enabled.

When you select "Recording" you should get a list of options to put check-marks in and then you pick one to enable it.
To more easily test Auxiliary Input, click the "Test" button and play some music file you have on your computer while trying to find the right setting.
