    wrong extention!

    Hi all!
I have a problem after I installed dBpowerAMC music converter.
I am trying to download .mp3 file from the internet, and before the "save button" it automaticaly converts to .mpga. Where is the problem?
I don't know if it's about this converter, but it all began after I have installed it.

    thank u for help!

    Re: wrong extention!

I have not heard of this problem before.

First of all, dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC) should be able to recognize and read files with the .mpga extension. If you need to know whether your version of dMC can read these files, check in dMC Configuration (Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dBpowerAMP Music Converter Configuration). Scan down to the section that reads "Installed Input Codecs (Read)" and check the line that reads Mp3 Input Decoder. This should list .mpga as being among the extensions this codec will recognize.

If your dMC Configuration does NOT list .mpga as being among the extensions handled by this codec, OR if it is listed but dMC will not open/convert these files, then I would recommend that you download and install the latest Beta version of dMC from the Beta section of the Forum here:http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6740

If this still does not help I would note the following:
Unless you are trying to convert prior to or during your download, Music Converter should not have any effect on the file you are downloading. (And dMC cannot convert streaming audio unless you can either download the audio file or record it off of your sound card in real time).

I did find this link here: http://www.taperingsleeve.com/HELP-audio.html
which suggests that when this occurs when you set up a download when the download window opens to alloow you to set the file name for the file you are downloading, you change the file extension from .mpga to .mp3. This same solution is also described in several other sites, such as : http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs...sages/193.html
    (for example).

If you are using Real One Player for listening to your music, another site discusses an other approach here: http://www.willotoons.com/2003/10/mp3-mpga-problem.php.
I am not sure whether this merely addresses the issue of listening to these files on Real One Player (as opposed to actually changing the file extension).

If these ideas do not help, then it might be helpful to know a bit more about your download source and whether your audio files are protected or whether they are streaming audio.

    Best wishes,
    Bill

Also, you could tell windows to show file extensions as explained here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5361
Then try changing the extension to .mpga to .mp3 and see if the file will play.
