Conversion only converts the first 10 seconds

I've been running DBPower Amp for years with no problems but something has happened and now I cannot convert a file fully... for example, when I try to convert an mp3 file to a wma file only the first 10 seconds of the file is converted... There is no error message, the converter appears to run normally and the file appears but the converted file is not complete. This happens with any type of file I want to convert.

It appears to limit the file size to 36-37 kb.

I have changed no settings in DBP so I'm really clueless as to what is causing this to happen.

I uninstalled and redownloaded but I have the same problem... Any help will be much appreciated.

    my info:

I have windowsXP pro service pack 2 and all the latest windows updates. Media player 10 is installed.

Does this happen only when you convert to wma or does it happen when you convert mp3 to wave (for example)?

I've had this happen on occasion. The worst possible case would be that either dMC or your dB wma codec is corrupted somehow. (If this is occuring with conversion from mp3 to wave then it might be the mp3 decoder codec). The first line suggestion is to uninstall either the codec (which is what I usually do first) or the codec and dMC, RESTART THE COMPUTER, and then reinstall the codec and/or dMC.

I would recommend that if you reinstall dMC, you use the latest beta version.

If this procedure does not work, then the last-ditch procedure involves uninstalling, clearing the registry settings and restarting before you reinstall. This procedure is described here:
    A. If uninstalling does not help, then follow these instructions to make a totally clean start: *** if you are using dBpowerAMP Audio Player, backup your music collection first *** 1) Reboot PC, Select 'Start' >> 'Run' and type: regedit.exe Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Illustrate delete the Key

    (from the FAQ section).

    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    Bill

No, no DSP Effects are selected... and I did uninstall and reinstall all codecs... then I uninstalled and reinstalled dbpoweramp and nothing seems to help.

Did you clean out your registry after you uninstalled? See xoas's post above for a link of how to do this. Make sure you reboot after you uninstall dBpowerAMP.

No I didn't... I'm afraid to mess with the reg.... I'm afraid I might lose the computer.....

            Thanks for your assistance.

I understand your reluctance on this matter. I had a traumatic episode once with a Windows 95 machine after I used a trial registery cleaner product. Lost everything and had to reformat my computer from scratch.

On the other hand, I have several times successfully cleared dMC from my registery in XP without adversely effecting any other part of the computer. I would urge you to write down Spoon's instructions from the link above, then go: Start>Run, type in Regedit>HKey_Current_User>Software>Illustrate. Take a look at what the directions ask you to do. I believe you will see that in XP there is no real problem that you will effect any other programs on your computer.

              Best wishes,
              Bill

Here's a somewhat more detailed description of the procedure (and a description of why you may need it):
there are some anomalies that occur when uninstalling dbpoweramp parts. i just unisntalled using windows add/remove the following codecs, ogg, aac, mp4, wsp, voc. start-->programs-->dbpoweramp music converter-->configuration-->dmc configuration that does not match whats in my registry however this

Deleting just the 'illustrate' key (folder) from the registry is safe.
