What are the specs for this file (channels, bitrate, frequency)? Try choosing the codec "Test Conversion (no write)" and trying to convert it. If it still fails, dMC cannot read this file for some reason.

If you are asking whether the test conversion will do the same as the mp3 codec the answer is no. The test conversion will simply try to read your source (mp4 in this case) file that you are trying to convert. At the end of the test conversion you will not end up with any output file. All you will have is the knowledge that dBpowerAMP can read your file (which is why LtData suggested this) and some knowledge of how long that part of the conversion process will take (sometimes useful in other situations).

If you are saying that you have tried the test conversion but it failed, then there are three or four possible reasons for this. It is easy to confuse an m4p file with an mp4 file. But m4p (used by Apple for iTunes downloads) encodes DRM (digital rights management) measures to discourge file sharing or file copying. If this is the case, you will find more information in the DRM/Copy Protection forum.

If the file is mp4 then the other reasons (apart from copy protection/DRM) you might not be able to read your file might be that you do not have the right codec installed (and/or that your codec lacks the technical ability to properly read the file as it is written), that the file is corrupt, or that the media (say this is on cd rom) is corrupt in
          some way.

If you can play the file in some program and it plays ok then you should be assured that the file is not corrupt and that there is no problem with the media the file is on. If worse comes to worse, you can always re-record your track as you play it in a program using dBpowerAMP Music Converter's Auxilary Input (see the FAQ forum for what to do if you can play a file or not convert it).

On the other hand, make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest mp4/m4a/Apple Lossless codec from Codec Central. If this is not the codec you are using, there is the possibility that that the new codec will do a better job. If you already have that codec installed and it won't work, then consider also downloading and installing the latest AAC codec from Codec Central.

          Hope this helps.
          Best wishes,
          Bill

For the test conversion I mean it does 20 % en then it is completed.
I have 2 files, one file was ok and the other not ok.
I try again to convert the file that ok was and it works only for 24 % ????
File length 46 min 48 sec MP4 convert to MP3 file lenght 11 min 28 sec.
MP3 file is ok but too short ?????

            Thanks for your help

Re: converting MP4 to MP3 file

For the file that was ok there are two options that might work:
              -First convert the file to wave and then to mp3;
-Try converting to mp3 with channels and frequency set to "as source". If you are trying to convert to a constant bitrate mp3 file, you might also try changing to a variable bitrate mp3 file.

For the other file (the one that does not fully test convert), can you play it? If so, in what program?

              Best wishes,
              Bill

Download the latest dMC beta, linked below. That might help your problem converting to mp3.

Re: converting MP4 to MP3 file

yes I can play it with Creative Playcenter

the file is ok but is not fully converted ???

I had 2 files, one was fully converted and all right and the other only 20 % converted but also all right (I can play it but not fully converted)
I try to convert again the file that was fully converted to mp3 (for a test)
but it doesn't work anymore (only 24 % is converted ????).
The program did work the first time but now I can't convert a complete MP4 file to an MP3 file (only a little piece of it ????)

                  Greetings

Re: converting MP4 to MP3 file

I suspect that part of the problem may be the length of your mp4 files. That is why, with the file that fully test converted, it still won't convert straight to mp3. Converting first to wave and then to mp3 is less work for your computer (and less likely to develop a glitch) than a straight conversion to mp3.

As for the other file, if you can play it all the way through using Creative Playcenter, I think your best bet is to record the track using Music Converter's Auxilary Input feature. Again, recording first to wave and then to mp3 is likely to work better than trying to record straight to mp3. Directions for using Auxilary Input can be found in the FAQ section of this forum here:
dMC Auxiliary Input is used to record audio to your hard drive from what is being played through your soundcard. Applications include transferring cassettes or vinyl to your pc for further processing and perhaps for burning to audio cd, capturing streaming audio which cannot be downloaded and converting the audio from

LtData is also right to suggest upgrading to the latest beta version of Music Converter if you have not already done so. It features several bug fixes that may well improve your ability to convert to mp3. Also, make sure you are using the latest version of the m4a/mp4/Apple Lossless codec.

If you have WinAmp and can play the mp4 files in WinAmp, you might be able to use dBpowerAMP's WinAmp Plug-in Input Adapter codec but I would not recommend trying this unless you are already using WinAmp and are comfortable doing so. It would also help if you already had a WinAmp mp4 codec installed. If you cannot play the filre all the way through with WinAmp then I would not bother to waste time on this.

                    Bill
