encoding mp3, help!!!!

Hi, please excuse me for my English, I am spanish spoken
I do not understand... even if i download the las lame codec from lame web site i will not be able to continue encoding once the trial period has expired?
I do not understand why because there are lots of softwares which allow you to encode in mp3 for free.
Can anybody explain it to me?
