can't convert .ra files, please help!

ok, so i desperatly need to figure out to convert my .ra files into wave or ogg.
i already downloaded the directshow codec, the realaudio codec, real alternative, and i have followed the instructions to configure the directshow codec, opening the notepad and adding and saving the extension type (.ra,.ram) and then i ran dbpoweramp configuration as instructed.
so now i can select a realaudio file to be converted, but when i start the conversion, i get this message:

The CODEC required to decompress 'C:\xxxxxx.ra' could not be opened.
DirectShow filter for '.ra' not installed, or Audio File Corrupt.

so if i have this right, real alternative is the directshow filter, so why isn't this working?
does it need to be connected to the directshow codec somehow?
please help an extremely frustrated music lover get his fix

Did you add .ra and .ram to separate lines?
In dMC Configuration, does .ra and .ram show up?
(Start --> Programs --> dBpowerAMP Music Converter --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration)

yes ra, and ram are shown under configuration, and i have rebooted, but still no luck.
any other suggestions?

Can you play the file? In which player?

The DirectShow filter and codec appear in several places. From memory thse are: when you install Real Alternative it's in one of the options as a filter which you must select; a codec to install in dBpowerAMP; the extension to add to that file in Notepad after that; a filter to enable in dMC Configuration when you launch it after that. The whole thing is supposed to finally be enabled by a reboot.
