    Can't convert a thing

I have had Db converter for a fair while, started with 9 and now up to 11, but what is happening at the moment is that I can't convert anything wether it be wav to mp3 or mp3 to wav, or even wav to wav, I mainly covert to wav to format 11025 2 bit (Stereo), to save space on my pc and then convert it back if I wish to burn (but that isn't even showing on the list of attributes anymore) I even tried a conversion to 22050 but still the same the final conversion shows no length . However just recently it keeps coming up saying The CODEC required to compress ...wav' could not be opened.
and I end up with a 1kb wav/mp3, I still have the exe. for 9 put that back in and the same thing happens, I have also lost the pop up info box when you put your mouse arrow over a song, it has been like this for about 2 weeks, pulled my hair out, saw this site, joined and now I hope someone can help me

    Steve

PS I think I put this in the wrong forum. I put it in Beta Test by mistake

    Re: Can't convert a thing

First off, just changing the frequency won't save any space really, but the audio will be worse. You need to change the bitrate to actually compress. You will lose quality, unless you convert to a lossless format, but then you can't save too much space (maybe 40%).

Now for your conversion problem. I assume you are referring to conversions through ripping of cd's - i.e. dMC Audio CD Input. Are you signed in as an admin?

        Re: Can't convert a thing

You get files in wav format in email? They must be some form of compressed wav as otherwise they'd be huge files, at 10MB/minute of audio.

Anyway, check that you are signed in as admin or at least Power USer. The installations must be done as admin.

Post here the details of your installation as you get from dMC Configuration.
If you have the latest beta version of dMC, you have a tool to copy to the clipboard all those details.

You can't go back to prior versions without completely uninstalling and reinstalling. And all the dMC programs and codecs must be installed to the same folder, preferably the one recommended by the installer: c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpowerAMP .

once you have encoded in lossy format the quality has gone for good - you cant restore the quality of a recording just by re-encoding it at a higher bit rate

Assuming that you have the original source file, that is.
