R11 won't convert files with accented characters

    Hi

This is my first post here and I find this program fantastic. I am converting apple m4a files to mp3. Some of my files have accented characters in them, and dBpowerAMP returns an error " file could not be opened". Is there a way around this short of renaming all the files, converting and then rerenaming back.

    Thanks

Does the error concern the m4a file or the resulting mp3 file?

Are the file names for those files longer than usual?

dMC 11/11.5 does not currently support Unicode characters. It only supports reading them from tags, not filenames. Unicode support will be added in Release 12.

Actually file names with accented characters are ok. It may be the tags that give problems.

Other unicode characters, like those associated with non-latin based alphabets are probably problematic.

For example, a file name including "Béla Bartók" does not convert. The " ó " is not recognized.

Thanks for your replies. Any way around this, I have more than 10000 files to convert and I would hate to do them manually one by one

Sorry, no. Since dMC doesn't support Unicode in filenames, you will have to either find another program or rename your files.

But it DOES work! I don't know what other problem you have on your PC but a file with such a name most certainly does convert perfectly. Accented characters in the file name are not an issue at all.

I think it may be the character set you use under Windows that is not appropriate.

Maybe it's the mp4 decoder. Cannot test that since I don't own any .mp4 files.

I tested by first making an .mp4 file from a wav using the CLI encoder, naming it Béla Bartók.mp4 and converting it to mp3. No problem at all.

So nothing wrong with eitehr dMC or the mp4 decoder.

As Christina said, try download the new mp4 decoder/encoder from Codec Central. Make sure to uninstall your current mp4 decoder/encoder before you install the new one.

I really appreciate you taking the time to do testing to resolve my problem. I am using mp4 faad v2.0 decoder and mp3 lame encoder version 3.93.1, should I be using something else

                    Thanks

Wait, how are you using Lame 3.93.1 if you're using the latest dBpowerAMP?

Correct neil. dMC 11.5 beta uses 3.96.1 but it may just be a mis-type or the file not updating with the new version number.

I added German language support to windows Xp. Problem solved.

                          Thank you all.
