MP3 recorded with OpD2d does not play

Before hearing about dbPowerAmp I used OpD2D to successfully record webcasts via my Conexant AMC Audio sound card.

I then had a problem putting wma's on an Ipod mini and downloaded dbPowerAmp to convert the files.

After a time OpD2D recorded from the soundcard but on playback there was no sound.
The files do appear to have data in, usually 38322kb in mp3 format.

I've bought dbPowerAmp with PowerPack and apart from a sound quality issue I am very pleased with it (bit distorted on playback, have same prob on some recent stuff on WMP)

I would like to open the OpD2D recorded files though, can anyone help.

Thanks from a brand new member

Will this file play back correctly in any player, or is there no sound no matter where you play it? How long is this file supposed to be?

With the opd2d program you have a choice of recording to either wave or mp3 format. Can you explain why you refer to wma files?

Try dMC R11.1 beta from the beta section of this forum.

Re: MP3 recorded with OpD2d does not play

The file will not play on any player. Windows explorer shows data is there with a file size about 38332 kb which represents an actual recording time of 29 minutes. In wmp it shows recording is playing, the progress bar moves along but there is no sound at any volume level, tried itunes, nero player and a few others, same result.

The reference to wma files has no connection to the problem, I think,,, its just why I first downloaded dbPowerAmp in the first place. All my recordings on op have been in mp3 format.

Maybe dbPowerAmp could have affected the mp3 encoder dll that was already on my pc?

Gonna try the dmc R11.1 beta a bit later.

          Thanks

dBpowerAMP wouldn't touch any of your other system components when you install it, except for installing WMA System codecs if you install the WMA codecs.

Re: MP3 recorded with OpD2d does not play

Just recorded and played back a webcast using dbPowerAmp auxil, flawless, excellent sound quality, no problems.
Well pleased and good value too.
Takes care for me of future recordings.

Gonna keep scratching away at the opD2D business.
File has data but no sound, ergo something must have changed, dark hand of Microsoft licence management,, lol,,
Grateful for any suggestions or pointers.

              Thanks

What about files recorded using that OpD2D program prior to installing dBpowerAMP? Are they playable?

If they are, I would suggest that maybe what happened is that the volume control for your input source may have been muted or practically muted when you recorded through OpD2D post installation of dBpowerAMP.

Re: MP3 recorded with OpD2d does not play

Earlier files do play okay, however there is no volume control on opd2d and I think the volume of the sound card was set to "normal hearing" when I recorded the items.
Have tried all sorts of volume settings when trying to replay these files without result.
However I am taken with your logic and will pursue it.
The file has data cos it says so in Explorer, so something is stopping me "hearing it".
Either a sound or system setting or maybe the long arm of WMP and licence management???
Thanks Christina, don't suppose you are from my fav Canadian place, Glace Bay????

When you play it in Windows Media player, do you get a visualization in the main window? If you do, there is audio content but it might be quiet. If you don't, then the file, even though its big, is just silence.

Nope, just a burb of Montreal :D

You can try to edit your mp3 file in an editor like Audacity. You will see what kind of wav form is recorded and draw some conclusion from that, especially by comparing with a file which plays ok.

Montreal is good, I am sure it is good.
Least ways you are always welcome to visit here to make note and compare.
Cape Breton would be kinda groovier and could then be northern exposure.
Now, to serious business, have narrowed down dates when files became unplayable.
If some licence limit has restricted a file would Audacity or a similar file restore what previously worked.
Why would any empty file of silent data take space, discuss and debate........
                        Thanks

Even silence is data, technically. You can open up the Windows Sound Recorder, hit record, hit stop 30 seconds later and save it. If you amplify the file loud enough, there WOULD be noise. This noise would just be interference inside the soundcard or other circuits inside the computer that causes a digital "noise" to be recorded. So, silence isn't technically silence.
As for the lisence restriction, normally this causes files to no longer open, not just go blank. However, mabye this software uses a special type of decoder on its mp3 files? Can OpD2d still play these files even?

OpD2D is a little gizmo that allows your sound card to capture anything that runs through it. It has no player or other mechanisms but it does record mp3 using blade.dll if you choose to use that.
So no, it is not equipped to play it back, you just use,,,, leastways I used to use it to record,,,,,,, everything now is on dbPowerAmp because it does a better job.
Anyways, have tried playback of the files on WMP, Real Player, Audacity and so on.
The file size for silence is strangely similar to the file size for the playable reording of the series, eg ranging from 38832kb to 39128kb.
Not an Audacity master but opened one of them in it which it converted. There was no sine wave at all, just a band with no response.
When you open it in Media Player is shows up on the progress bar but there is no sound.
Decided to move to Montreal and just record on audio ,,,, LOL
                            Many thanks people

now got problems with an mp3 player,,,, oh god, bring me back audio tape,,,,
Itunes downloads to Ipod mini okay and WMP will sync to mp3 player but the player says there are no files to play, even tho explorer shows the mp3 player is full of music,,,, (which was ripped to WMP from purchased discs).

Do we all think the inclusion of digital management rights in the new Pentium chips is a hardware embedded security step too far,,,,, dont think I will be buying one!!!!

Note that the iPod will NOT play wma files. You'll havta convert your files to mp3 or mp4 and then send them.
