    Convert To Issue

Tonight I was trying to convert an albums' worth of wma files to mp3. I do this all the time by right-clicking on whatever files I want to convert, selecting convert to, and then adjusting my settings and running the actual conversion from the music converter dialog box that pops up etc..

This time when I right-clicked on these wma files, I got every other dbpowerAMP contextual menu (edit tag, etc.) item EXCEPT convert to.

Then I figured, maybe they're protected files, etc. They're not. Then I figured maybe the files are too large (never happened before), so I tried clicking on one file at a time. Sure enough, I could select one file and see the convert to option, but anything more than one and it would disappear.

Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I went to another folder with a bunch of wma files - same thing. I do NOT have this problem when selecting multiple mp3 or other audio file types.

The workaround was just to run the Music Converter from the it's shortcut and select the files from there. I just want to know why I can't get the right-click convert to option when selecting more than one wma file. Is there some setting I missed? Could this be a bug?

BTW - I have the required codecs installed and the Convert To option in Explorer is enabled.

    Thanks!

    Re: Convert To Issue

Sometimes having menu items enabled in another program, such as Windows Media Player, will disable the "Convert to" selection. Try disabling any of these items in Windows Media Player or whatever program you have associated wma files with.

OK, but why does it disappear only when selecting more than one file?

      Thanks again.

Hmmm.... a guess, maybe one of the files isn't a proper wma file?

nope - then i wouldn't be able to select them in the "select files to convert" dialog box that comes up when i launch the app.

          can someone else try this?

What is on the context menu when you select more than one wma file? Are there entries for Windows Media player or another player?

sorry, i'm not quite understand what u mean in the first post.
Do u mean your "Convert To" in the context menu is missing ?

If i'm right, u had install some player or sound tools that will overwrite the setting of dMC.
So, uninstall and then reinstall the dMC will get them back

In earlier version of dMC (dMC10 /dMC9), we can just disable and then re-enable the "convert to" function in the configuration of dMC.
But, this trick is NOT always working anymore since dMCv11. (just wonder why...?)

Sometimes it requires a reboot for it to show up again.

If you select multiple files and one has a different extension (ie .wma and .wmv) then it cannot show the Convert To item.

                    Re: Convert To Issue

Thanks guys for all your help so far - just to clarify, the files are definitely ALL wma files. Selecting any one of them individually and then right-clicking gives me the Convert To option. Selecting more than one of ANY of these same wma files causes the Convert To option to disappear.

I do notice some Windoze media player options in the right-click menu as well, but I don't use that player and no audio or video files are associated with it.

Again, by launching dMC from it's shortcut, I am able to select any and all of these same wma files to convert and they convert fine.
