    reverb with the auxiliary input

moderatly experianced at this but I am stuck. when i use the auxiliary input portion of the music converter i catch a horrible case of re-verb.

    what i am doing:
    1) start playing the file i would like to record in windows media player
    2) adjust volume so it is not blearing at me
    3) hit "test recording level"
    4) cry because all heck breaks loose
    5) as soon as i hit stop test, it goes back to regular volume regular sound

    settings:
just using standard CD quality output trying to record to a .wav so i can convert latter to mp3, i have tried the stereo mixer, the wav option and the "what u hear" under the input selection. with all three i am able to here the audio but as soon as i start to record (either in actuality or in test) it starts reverbing

    any recommendations would be great

side not: this is actually a licensed audio book in wma form that i have downloaded with the appropriate licenses and that i can listen to on my computer but i am trying to get it onto my ipod so i can listen on the go

    Turn your speaker volume down.

Make sure the option to playback the sound through your speakers is off (aux input >> options).

Or you could just turn off your speakers. ^_^

tips are good but not really working
the audio is not being recorded with a mic. it is doing the internal thing so even if i turn speakers off the reverb record. as for turning off playback sound i can not find that option so maybe a little more help. thanks

what's your sound card model? I can do some Googling (geek term for "researching") on your sound card to troubleshoot more on this problem.

Click the "rocket" icon on the Aux Input window and you'll see an option for "output recorded audio".

i did the rocket thing and it is off (unchecked), i also tried with it check... it is all odd sounding, not really a reverb but more of an echo. it sounds like the first word that is said just repeates over and over louder and louder with the rest reading in the backgroung and dooing the same.... I am useing a crative aoud blaster audigy 1 card

Right-click on the volume icon in the task bar at the bottom of the screen, right, near the clock.

Use Open Volume Controls > Optios > Properties > Recording. Select all items from the drop down list and click OK. The from the screen that is being displayed where you ahve severla differnt recording sources, select Stereo Mix or What U Hear. Put the volume slider 2/3 or 3/4 of the way up for that selection.

Open again Volume controls > Optios > Properties >Playback and select all items from the drop down list and then OK. On the screen displayed mute microphone, otherwise leave everyhting unmuted and with the sliders at the top except for Master volume which dictates what you will be hearing through your speakers.

Start recording through AUxiliary Input. |You'd do best to record to uncompressed PCM wav, 16-bit 44.1KHz, unless you expect this to be a very long recording. Uncompressed wav occupies about 5MB of space per minute per channel - so it's 10MB per minute for stereo.

Hah! I just ran into this same problem. You must have enabled that (I think, new) feature in the dMC PowerPack Options: Output recorded audio
                      Disable that.
