First, click options and select the correct CD drive. Second, click Advanced while on the CD selection and see what setting it is on. Try using either "2000/NT Communcations" or "2000/NT Built-In (Limited)" and see if one of those works. Also, make sure you give the CD time to spin up before clicking refresh.

        Re: not reading the cd!

You mean no track listing appears or you get tracks listed only as Track01 ... ?

If no track listing appears at all then the cd is not detected (check which drive is selected in Options) or is not an audio cd. If it's not an audio cd, you should access it in WIndows Explorer.

If the correct drive is selected in Options, then click on Advanced next to the CD drive selection and modify the CD Communication there to one of the other values.

Perhaps the CD is protected. Take it out and insert it into the drive holding down the shift key to bypass protection checking.

Again if the CD is protected you can also click the little arrow next to Options and select Standard CD Player Emulation > toggle Table of contents detection.

Finally if it's just a matter of non-recognition of the tracks and artists on the cd, is it a commercially recorded audio cd? There wouldn't normally be information in the freedb database for a home-compiled burned cd and not all commercial cd's may be present there either. Are you connected to the internet and is the freedb database accessible? Click on the little arrow next to the freedb button > freedb Server > and see what changes you may have to make there concerning your internet connection.
