Please advise if you know how to copy from one IPOD directly to another? There would not be any conversion necessary, just a disk to disk transfer. Any easy method you might suggest is greatly appreciated.

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
I'm not familiar with these devices, but do they get plugged in through usb ports? if so, can you plug in both Ipods? Then maybe you can see 2 external drives in Windows Explorer and simply copy and paste from one to another?
Or alternately copy from one of them to the hard drive to a new folder and copy from there to the other ipod ? -

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
Neil, this surely makes no sense, does it? If you put things onto it you got to be able to access them and copy them out of it too.Originally posted by neilthecellistHere's your answer:

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
Actually Christina, I think they have killed downloading from the iPod or any other portable player unless you use software like Sveta. For instance, I cannot download songs stored on my Karma using the RMM software but I can via Sveta. This is to "cut down" on the pirating of music using these players.Comment

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
Not saying "downloading" as in using a nice program to do it and arrange or manage - simply using Windows Explorer and explore the drive. Is it or not seen as an external drive?Originally posted by LtDataActually Christina, I think they have killed downloading from the iPod or any other portable player unless you use software like Sveta. Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
Did manage to figure one thing out:
My Karma doesn't show up as a USB Mass Storage Device due to the Rio lawsuit ruling way back in the late 90s that prevent Rio from ever allowing their devices to function as USB MSDs. Therefore the driver doesn't allow this to happen.Comment

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
If you copy the hidden folder (something like ipod_control from memory) from one ipod to the other with widows explorer, but I don't think you can copy over purchased audio files.Comment

Re: Copy from IPOD to IPOD
There's the answer alright, but the *wrong* answer. You can do it, and it's not in the least bit difficult. I restored my entire music folder from the ipod_control folder/sub-folders when I reformatted hard drive. You have to have "Show Hidden Files/Folders" enabled in Windows. The iPods can be seen by Windows (and some Linux distros now) as a removable hard drive. :D :DOriginally posted by neilthecellistHere's your answer:

Originally posted by Lt.DataIn my case, the Karma is NOT seen as an external drive. I don't know about the iPods, but I'd say most likely they aren't.Mine shows as "Removable Media" as a Hard-Drive. I have full access to it as well. Windows XP SP2. Also under SuSE 9.3 Pro, I have to mount it from its firewire connection, but it still works just fine. In my iPod's MANUAL it goes through how to use the iPod as an external hard drive. If I were you neilthecellist, I'd tell your iPod obsesser person to RTFM.Originally posted by neilthecellistthey aren't. Just confirmed with an iPod obsesser on AIM.
No! Don't do that!! You're right!!! You can explore the drive thru Windows Explorer... :D :D :D :DOriginally posted by ChristinaSOk, ok, I take all my logic and common sense notions back LOL!
Well, yes and no... You can probably copy them over, but they won't play. The only way you could get them to play is to pretty much use some drive imaging software, and literally image one drive to the other, this would include the file(s) on the iPod that handle decryption during playback of an encrypted iTMS file; but then you couldnt put your own information on the iPod or use any of your own iTMS purchased songs. Not too sure on that one though. I've heard of iPods deleting files from themselves that don't have authorization to be played. But that's only if you have them in the ipod_control folder/sub-folders. If you're using the iPod as a storage device, then it wouldn't mess with your files that are outside of its operating area.Originally posted by Spoonbut I don't think you can copy over purchased audio files.Last edited by iTunesIsEvil; May 09, 2005, 07:57 PM.Comment
