mp3enc (MP3ENC31.EXE) on windows xp and with more than 128kbit/s

An information for people who want to use mp3enc CLI codec and cannot get bitrates above 128kbit to work:

We normally use mp3enc only for 128kbit CBR conversion because it is clearly the best codec for this setting. Recently i wanted to convert to 192kbit/s with it but i always got empty files. First I thought it is a problem of dbpoweramp converter so I tried it on the commandline and got the same problem. I thought maybe there is a problem with the registration, but the demo version had the same problem and reentering the serial didnt help either.
In the end I fired up a debugger and found the problem.
I will not go into details but it is an incompatibility with win xp. It can be fixed easily: Right click on mp3enc31.exe in explorer, choose properties. Go to Compatibility tab, and set the program to run in Windows 95 compatibility mode. Then all bitrates up to 320kbit/s will work.

mp3pro is an SBR codec (like AAC+ or HE) anything above 128Kbps shouldn't need the SBR part (use normal mp3 or AAC)
