    QuickTime MP4 conversion not working

    Hi,

I am really impressed by dBpowerAmp but there are probably some bugs.

One of the bugs is that QuickTime MP4 conversion is not working for me on two computers using Windows XP with the current version of QuickTime installed.

Attempt to convert into MP4 results in the error message showing a wrong path with double backslashes (\\) in it and the suggestion "(Ensure that backslashes \ have been used properly)"

    Best,

    Dmitry

Can you test convert your source file? What type of file is your source file and how many channels does it have and what is its frequency?

      Hi,

      thank you for the response!

No, I cannot convert any files with the QuickTime converter because of the problem mentioned above.

The source files are usual, stereo with 44.1 KHz, WAV, APE, and others.

All other converters except of the QuickTime work fine.

Test conversion uses no encoding codec, only a decoding codec. It simply verifies that the file to be converted is readable and not corrupt or of a type for which there's no decoding codec installed.

Idea: How long is the filename of these files? The Quicktime converter has a 63 character limit for filenames, due to limitations in Quicktime itself.

Re: QuickTime MP4 conversion not working

Take note of the information relative to the Qt encoder:
This Program Requires Registered version of QuickTime 6.3 or higher

This CLI allows to batch encode using dbpoweramp to MP4 audio format (m4a) using Quicktime V6.3 to V6.5 registered version.

Here are the limitations of the CLI:
1- Settings of encode can not be adjusted from dbpoweramp (they are set and kept until changed from quicktime interface)
2- QuickTime must be installed to c:\program files\quicktime
3- Whilst encoding screen savers must be switched off and the computer left alone to encode.

            Instruction to use the CLI:

1- Install a registered copy of Quicktime (i tested it with V6.5) in the default folder on drive C:
2- Start quicktime, open a .wav file and select file >> export
3- Selects the "Movie to MPEG-4" format with "Most Recent Settings".
            4- Press the "Options..." button
5- Set the first field to "Audio" and adjust the parameters for the desired audio encodings.
6- Encode this wave file with these settings so they stick.
7- Now quicktime is ready to be used with dbpoweramp and setup for mpeg4 encoding. The last settings is kept by quicktime so previous steps are not required anymore except if user wants to change the default encoder setting.
8- Dbpoweramp is now ready to be used for batch encoding with quicktime!

N.B. There is one parameter in the "options.txt" file which is "6000" this is computer speed dependant but for a Pentium 3 533Mhz as mine and faster, it should work flawlessly (and probably for much slower computer also). This is the delay in msec to wait for quicktime to close and flush the temporary output
file to disk before copying to the dbpoweramp output file...

I have also include the script source file "QTBatch.aut" which i got the idea from the hydrogenaudio forum. This script was compiled with AutoIt v2.64 beautiful freeware tool "http://www.hiddensoft.com/AutoIt/" to generate "QTBatch.exe". Autoit is not necessary to use the compiled script standalone .exe

            QTBatch created by SuperBart.

Sounds like you are converting from a network path, ie:

Re: QuickTime MP4 conversion not working

                Hi, All,

I am converting a file Test.wav that I have ripped from a CD.

I am converting it from my hard drive, not from a network path.

The file is OK, it is playable and encodable with all other encoders. However, I down know how to "test convert" it in the sence above.

At first I convert it with QuickTime 6.5 to set the encoding settings. It works OK.

Then I try to convert it with dBpowerAmp's QuickTime plugin. It does not work, I recieve the error message quoted above.

The same happens with all files that I have tested and on two my Windows XP computers.

Another and seemingly unrelated problem is that I have so many different audio programs and plugins now that QuickTime, iTunes, and Winamp produce a distorted sound. It seems that it happened after I've installed the MusePack plugin for the Windows Media Player (WMP). On the contrary, WMP, foobar2000, MusicMatch, and dBpowerAmp players sound OK. Nevertheless, QuickTime can still encode with good results. But, anyway, the problem with the QuickTime plugin for dBpowerAmp existed before.

                Best,

                Dmitry

"Test convert" refers to you selecting the codec "Test Conversion (no write)" to make sure dMC can decode your file. Is your version of QuickTime registered? Is it installed to "C:\Program files\Quicktime"?

To test convert, select the file you want to convert, and under the convert window, select Test Conversion.

Try the iTunes codec from the beta section this forum.

Re: QuickTime MP4 conversion not working

I've just made the test conversion of this file and I've got no error message. Nothing happened, and I judje that the test has passed.

I have a registered version of QuickTime 6.5.

As I am in Germany, QuickTime 6.5 is installed in

                        "C:\Programme\Quicktime"

                        and not in

                        "C:\Program files\Quicktime"

Probably this is the reason that dBpowerAmp is complaining about the path.

                        I will test it today.

                        Best,

Probably indeed a path problem. Very strange that Windows has created a folder with a different name for programs. Not quite in character. I have the French version of Windows at work and most of these folders that are created on a first install carry the original English version.

The idea is everybody has to be careful where they install programs and stay consistent throughout.

Well, I have reinstalled QuickTime in

                            "C:\Program files\Quicktime"

and now converting with QT/dBpowerAmp works fine.

                            Thank you falks!

I think, however, that this issue should be seriously adressed. German versions of Windows install all programs by default in "Programme". It is then difficult for the people to figure out that QTBatch.exe looks for QT in "Program files". I would add the option where QT is installed into the converter frontend.

There IS a way to change where it looks for QuickTime, at least in one location. In the QTBath.aut file in %Path%\dbpowerAMP\compression\QuickTime M4a (CLI). It reads as so: run,c:\\Program Files\\QuickTime\\QuickTimePlayer.exe
If you change "Program Files" to whever its located, it should be able to read it from anywhere, but I'm not sure if this location is coded in anywhere else.
