Can't record audio with USB Speakers attached

    I have Windows 2000 SP4.

I use dBPowerAMP to record streaming audio. Works great until I connect my USB speakers to listen while recording. Can't record squat then. :(

I know this is a Windoz problem, not a dBPowerAMP issue, but any advice would be appreciated.

    this is puzzling....

D'you have latest drivers and everything? Are you using Aux. Input for streaming audio?

I'm very ignorant. What kind of soundcard do you have that it has USB speakers?
Is there a control program for the soundcard that allows you to specify recording options, source, playback options, etc?

The drivers for USB speakers are part of Windows, you just plug them in (they are actually a LINEX FM stereo transmitter but Windows sees "USB speakers" and loads the "Burr-Brown Japan PCM2702" drivers). The streaming audio is from a browser and I have to set the recorder source to "Stereo Mix" or "Mono Mix" when the USB speakers are not attached.

USB speakers have nothing to do with the soundcard. Windows supports them as an output when you plug them into a USB port. The problem APPEARS to be that Windows diverts the signal from my streaming audio browser DIRECTLY to the USB speakers without going thru the standard Windows mixer.

I have a LINEX FM Stereo transmitter that looks like standard USB speakers to Windows. I hook it up to my Thinkpad so I can use my Stereo system for sound and remain cordless. The USB speaker drivers come with Windows.

Since I am stymied on whether or not I CAN change the Windows configuration regarding this behavior (let alone HOW), I'm hardly the one to educate anyone on how USB speakers work. It's a Windows weirdness, not my hardware which is quite standard.

Here's the catch phrase I'm interested in understanding: streaming audio browser. What is that exactly?

It seems to suggest you're using some special program to play your audio files through that system, rather than any of the regular media players that would normally send the output to the soundcard and from there to speakers.

So the way I understand then the files are simply accessed from your HD by that Linex stereo FM transmistter and it's this unit that plays them directly to the speakers.

Is there a line-out from that Linex unit that could be connected back to the sound card in addition to being connected to the speakers?

why not just use a NORMAL audio player?

If you have the type of USB speakers that bypass the soundcard completely, perhaps the soundcard is automatically disabled. If you see no signal coming from your soundcard to whichever recording program you are using, that would seem to be the case (unless you have some soundcard setting wrong). This is just a guess since I have not used USB speakers.
