Re: why do i have to install WMA v9.1 Codec?
Before Windows Media Player 10 came out it was (sometimes) only necessary to install dBpowerAMP's own WMA codec that allowed programs to use Microsoft's own codecs.
Looking at the WMA codec page on codec central you can see that for earlier versions of the WMA codecs (v9 & v8) there were 2 separate files to available to be installed.
However for the latest WMA v9.1 it now appears that the necessary dBpowerAMP WMA codec is supplied together with Microsoft's WMA 9.1 codecs.

I don't think it uninstalls the original. The wma 9.1 codec is part of dMC , not Windows Media PlayerComment

Neil:
When you install the dMC WMA 9.1 Codec, it also installs the SYSTEM 9.1 Codecs. This is so the people that do not have WMP 10 installed can still use this codec.
As for the codecs:
You can uninstall the dMC Codecs just fine. You really only need the WMA 9.1 Codec, as I think it can encode to WMA 9 also. However, the system codecs (as with WMP 9 and WMP 10) can only be uninstalled with a System Restore.Comment
