    Windows 2000 crashes using dbPoweramp

A friend has this problem. He installed dbP 11.0 on his Windows 2000 system. When he tries to run the program the system hangs or crashes requiring a hard boot. There is nothing exceptional about his computer. Are there any pieces of software that might conflict, or any other suggestions, please?

Does dMC or Audio CD Input crash? Try changing the communication on the CD Input to "2000/NT Built-In (Limited)" under Start Menu --> Programs --> dbPowerAmp Music Converter --> Configuration --> Audio CD Configuration.

Also, if it's just CD Input that locks up, try going into Options and unchecking "Retrieve titles" for freedb. After CD Input recognizes your CD, click the freedb button to retrieve your titles. I have needed to do this a few times on a couple computers.

Nothing should freeze windows - check that the CPU is not overheating.

          Ahh, right, forgot about overheating.

          To check for overheating:
Take off the side panel of your case and place a floor/box fan against it blowing into the computer on high. If the computer still crashes when running dMC, place your finger on the CPU heatsink and see if it is extremely hot to the touch. If it is, you need a better heatsink to keep your CPU cool. If it is not, then the problem might still involve heat but lie elsewhere.

If your CPU (Computer Processing Unit) is overheating, then try lowering the CPU priority of any dBpowerAMP product to "Below Normal" and see if that helps.

Possibly that wouldn't help, even if nothing is running windows will give 100% to dbpoweramp which is just the same.
