Limitation on Lame?

Hi All,

When I try & convert a 22KHz mono WAV to MP3(lame) same frequency, mono, variable bitrate I get "Cannot open codec" error. If I select a constant bitrate it all works fine.
And if I use Aux Input to record to an MP3 of those specifications directly there are also no problems.

Are there limitations on the source file formats for Lame to convert to variable bitrate files?

Not sure, you could try converting said wave file to a stereo wave file, then try converting that to VBR in lame.
