    LAME in dMC

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I am a little bit confused as to which LAME version is used in dMC...

I thought that 3.96.1 is used, but under "dMC advanced Lame options" one can choose "Alt Preset ...". But the terminology was changed to just "Preset ..." (without the "Alt") in LAME 3.96, wasn't it? So what LAME version am I actually using?

I also know that at hydrogenaudio.org, 3.90.3 still is the recommended version, so it seems that many people would prefer that. Would it be possible to choose a different version for use with dMC?

    Thanks, Andreas

Release 11 uses Lame 3.96.1. As for the preset names, Spoon probably just didn't change the names for his dll of it.

As for using a different version, you can always download the Lame.exe Codec from Codec Central and use your own Lame.exe version.

Thanks. That's what I thought -- but I wanted to be sure.

Once there was much testing of lame 3.90.3, lame has had many updates and fixes since then (lame 4 is around the corner), just becuse HA has not re-run those tests does not mean that later lame versions are no good...

Spoon, have you ran tests on the latest LAME codecs?

No, to run propper tests you need to do a blind audio testing with many people, and guess this - the majority of Joe Public would hear zero difference between lame 3.90 and 3.96 @ 128Kbps
