    Unable to Upgrade Registered Product

    Hi
I have been using dmc for a few years now, and have not upgraded since Dec 2003 (ver 10 beta 3) last night I downloaded the new trial version and installed NOT the upgrade I SHOULD HAVE INSTALLED  ,

I realised my mistake and downloaded the registered users upgrade but upon installing it informs me my trial period has expired ie no Mp3 conversion.
After a lot of uninstalling and reinstalling I have now got back a working 10 beta 3 but how do I get the new upgrade to work?

The mp3 encoder is now limited to a 30-day trial via the PowerPack. You said you downloaded a new registered install for Release 11?

      Hi
No the upgrade I am trying to install is

      dBpowerAMPCDWriter-Registered-r2.exe

but during the install it states when the dmc config screen pops up (from memory as I aint going to try again at present)
      ver 11
reg: no : trial period expired
      or something like that!!
Im now back running my original registered product
Release 10 beta 3 and its doing all it should do.

From what you wrote do I take it that if I upgrade my product I am also now going to have to pay for the power pack to mp3 encode?

Re: Unable to Upgrade Registered Product

It seems to me that if you install the upgrade on top of the old version without uninstalling it (it prompts for that, just say no), then it inherits the registered status from the original one.

Oh, so you're running the unregistered version now. Kind of too late.

You will have to re-register - there's a way to reissue registration, no need to pay again. But I don't know where that thread is right now. You'll need to find your original registration details.

So you registered the CD-Writer and have NOT registered DMC? Or have you registered both?

Re: Unable to Upgrade Registered Product

I noticed that when I recently installed the latest registered version of dCW it installed an older version of dMC than I already had installed on my PC. Upon looking at the dMC Configuration it also reported that dCW was not registered.

After installing the latest beta version of dMC the configuration window reported correctly that dCW was registered.

Try installing the latest version of dMC.

That is CD Writer, the audio converter (with mp3 encoder) is a seperate product to CD Writer. The mp3 encoder requires a difference license.

Unfortunatly due to a harddrive failure and no back up I lost this prog, so via the site I emailed MR SPOON, I recieved back this email on 30 December 2003 16:40

                    Hi,

You are able to download the Registered dCW here:

This was the 10 beta 3 version I have been using happily since then which will encode from and to MP3.

NOW to the present 2 nights ago I ended up at the Registration page of the site that states

Welcome to dBpowerAMP's registered installation download link retrieval, this can be used to restore the registered status of dBpowerAMP, or to upgrade to the latest version. To receive your registration you require an Order / Receipt number from your original order (it was supplied in the receipt email).

As a registered user I decided to upgrade my product to the latest version and after going thru the pages downloaded this file
                    dBpowerAMPCDWriter-Registered-r2.exe

When the configuration screen poped up during installation I noticed the trial version days left bit and thought it was just one of them things but after installion finished I changed computor date and ended up not being able to encode to or from MP3

So to sum up, If I use the lastest version of my registered product I cant use mp3. IS THAT RIGHT ???

I was composing my hellishly long post when this one arrived and only just noticed it.

So I quess the 10 beta 3 version you sent me too in the email mentioned in my last post did more than my original product, and I by trying to upgrade I will lose that ability?

The full story is that the mp3 patent holders forced the free mp3 encoder to move onto a registration, now I suppose it is only fair if you are using the CD writer to create mp3 CDs then drop me an email and I will pay that patent fee in those instances:

Thanks for the offer, I won't take you up on it.
To be really honest, my Mp3 conversion/usage is quite small, and I dont think I have ever burned Mp3 to a cd, my only reason for posting was that before the "UPGRADE" I had Mp3 encoding afterwards I didnt, which didnt seem like much of an upgrade.
I can see now why its happened, and Im ok with that.

As for the CDwriter its a valuble part of my setup and wouldnt be without it.
So I quess now I will reinstall the new version and give it a bash.

                          Thanks to all who answered
