    Real Audio RMX files?

First I searched the FAQ and couldn't find anything on rmx files.
I have a bunch of music files that show up in windows explorer with a Real Audio icon and the file extension is ".rmx" . Under file type it says " RealSystem Secure Media File. Not sure how they became rmx files.
Is there a way to convert these rmx files to mp3?
Any info on this subject would be appreciated.
Hops this isn't a dumb question

Were these files purchased at an online music store? If so, there IS a way to record them, but only as you play each song. You will have to use Auxiliary Input to record the songs. Instructions here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5362

Actually it appears to be a Real Jukebox mp3 file. Possibly not quite the same as a regular mp3 file.

I'd try to rename it to .mp3 and see if Windows Media Player will recognize it and play it. if so you are in business.

Otherwise rename it to .rm or .ra and try a test conversion (no write) in dMC. You'll need the real media codecs and real player or real alternative installed. If this works, then convert it to mp3 or whatever you want to.

If none of these work and if real Player or Real Jukebox actually plays it, then use dMC Auxiliary Input and record it off the sound card.

i tried renaming to mp3 and then playing with Windows media player , no joy.
then tried renaming to "rm", downloaded the real audio codec, and then converting using dmB converter. I gave up after 40 minutes had elapsed and 0% converted. Why would that happen??

Files were not purchased at an online music store.

First of all can you play those files in Real Player? If not you've got bigger problems than that.

One more codec which may help is the DirectShow codec from the Beta section of the forum http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6665

In the end if all else fails and you can play the file in a player, use dMC Auxiliary Input to record through the soundcard.

Where did these files come from? Where they downloaded or copied from a friend? If so, you cannot play these files. Somebody originally purchased them at Real's online music store and you are not authorized to play them. Looks like your out of luck. :(

Exactly. RMX files were downloaded using the old Real Jukebox. With the wrong setting (ie, "add security") they are locked except on the original computer.

As a last resort, there is at least one program that claims to convert rmx to wave or mp3. It's free, to try so give it a whirl.

RAM to MP3 Converter: Convert Real Audio RM RA RAM to MP3, RA RM RAM to WAV and extract aduio from real video RA RM RAM to MP3
