Plextor712A Error Message"insert blank cd"-drive disappears

Running windows xp Pro.,service pk. 2 on pent 4.I convert the songs into record list by right clicking on song in its file. it converts ok and goes to the list.I put in blank disc. then when I click on burn I select the burner(plextor 712A or plextor 716SA) and it tells me insert blank disc. Most times it freezes and will not eject disc.Then when I click on burn again it tells me no cd writer found.I then have to reboot to get cd out.I have changed the settings in configuration from IO to limited and no difference.Command set is mmc and shaded out.My other writing program is Nero.Thanks ahead of time for any help.
