dMC Causes system power down

Hi,

I'm using dMC to convert high bitrate mp3s down to 128.
After running for a few minutes, my pc suddenly just turns itself off, as if I pulled the plug out. No warnings, no messages, it just shuts down. I've been using dMC for a long time, and I've never seen anything like this before. It doesn't even matter which files I try to convert.

I just installed the latest dMC and LAME, but no help
I'm running WinXP SP2 on an Athlon XP 2500+.

Any help?

Try a test conversion, no write.

What are the specs of your input mp3 files and those you want for output?
Channels, frequency, bitrate, cbr, abr, or vbr?

And what Priority of conversion are you using?

The files I've tried are 2 channel stereo, 44 KHz, CBR 320 or 160 Kbps CBR

I'm trying to convert them to 128Kbps CBR, Joint Stereo, 44100 Hz, no DSP, Preserve ID, normal priority.

Use below normal priority. Maybe you have to convert in 2 steps also, because your'e going from 2-stereo to joint stereo, it's possible it may not like it. First just lower the bitrate and then go to joint stereo.

Instead of joint stereo, I've selected [source], and my computer is much happier for it. I'm not gonna bother with joint stereo.

It is likely that your computer is overheating, check the CPU temperature, if it is over 60 deg C then it is too high.

Just kidding... it's happening again.

Overheating is probably the best explanation, although it is strange that I've done this and other CPU intensive activities dozens of times before without problems.

Is there anything I can do about it?

Is there anything I can do about it?

1. Do the fans in the computer make weird noises?
2. Open the side of your case and put a floor fan blowing into it on high speed. Does this keep it from crashing?
3. Buy a new CPU Heatsink/Fan. Note: If you've never installed one before, get someone who knows how to do it, especially with Athlon XPs.

open up your case, find the CPU right after your computer shuts down. Feel it. If it burns, it overheated. Get a cooler. :-)

I finally got around to getting a new cooler, and I've had no problems since (except that my system's a bit louder now...)
