Odd quirk when converting. Any clues?

Last night I converted an album-set of WMA Lossless files (16 bit, 44kHz) to MP3 (standard preset, 44kHz) and then later to WMA (64 bit two-pass). Everything sounds fine, everything worked fine except one very odd quirk with the Album name field. For some reason the converter grabbed the name of a different album! (This name was something I used in an tag field editor over the weekend.) This happened during both conversions: WMA Lossless to MP3 and WMA Lossless to WMA. I rechecked the tags with Tag&Rename and, yup, this is all repeatable. Strange, no?

One side-effect that I also noticed, which I like, is that I lose my album art during this conversion. For the compressed files, I was going to remove the album art anyways.

I did the conversion using the very cool right click method. I have WMP 10 installed, but never had to install a "beta" codec, encoding to WMA Lossless always worked fine.

Since album art implementation varies from format to format, it is not supported.

Okay, cool. I actually like that because I don't want the album art in my compressed files. But, what about the Ablum tag converting incorrectly. Any ideas?

maybe it's a bug that Spoon hasn't found out yet.

Spoon, you out there? Help us here.

dBpowerAMP writes APE 2 tags + id3v1 for mp3, if you edited the tag with a non ape2 aware program (windows, or perhaps tag & rename) then dmc would still use the ape2 tag.

            Interesting...

I'll try a conversion this evening (when I'm home and not procrastinating at work) with tags only written with dbPowerAmp and let you all know what happens.

And thanks for such a prompt reply!

(afterthought... isn't APEv2 a standard for APE files: Monkey Audio format? I've seen this in conjunction with MP3s but really not sure how this relates to my original WMA Lossless files and the conversion from WMA Lossless to WMA 64 bit, but then again, I'm new to this.)

              Update. Good News.

Well, I was pulling out my hair last night, and using the sort of language that I'm certainly not going to post here. To make a long story short, WMP10 went unstable on me (nothing to do with dbpoweramp) and I decided to reinstall both dbpoweramp and WMP10.

After a couple of nail biting minutes, XP decided it was finally time to grace me with a boot up, and I'm happy to report that everything works fine. File conversions, with proper tags, are all working great! Yay!

Another piece of good news is that tag&rename seems to be fully compatable with dbpoweramp, which is wonderful. My suite of music tools consists of:

              * dbpoweramp (love it love it love it)
              * WMP 10 (yes it is M$, but I really like it, especially the library interface)
              * tag&rename (excellent ID tag editor and actively supported by developer)
              * EAC (waiting for dbpoweramp to have a secure mode for ripping and then I can drop this)

This is all great stuff, and the community is so helpful :-)

Have a super Thursday, everyone. The weekend will soon be upon us :-)
