Is there a limit to the length of mp3 that can be converted to .wav? I was trying to divide up an album encoded as a single mp3 (as well as clean up some digital clicks and trim a few seconds off the 6 second gaps) and though the original is 54:53 in length (and MMJB converts it to this length), dMC stops at 26:40. Where's the rest of it?

How big is the final file? there is about a 2GB limit. -
Re: whole file does not convert
The entire album as a 16 bit 44.1khz .wav file is 92.6MB. The original VBR mp3 was 66.7MB. I tried converting the mp3 three times using dMC and it came out short every time. MMJB did it first shot. This is worrisome to me as I collaborate with other artists on the web and we send mp3s back and forth which I convert to .wav to use in my multitrack programs. We mail the .wavs back and forth but converting mp3s allows us to work more quickly with large projects. For the final mix we substitute our original .wav files for any converted files in use.Comment

How much ram does you computer have?
Are there any DSP effects that are being applied during the conversion?Comment

btw, Your "atavar" is really excellent.
You could try to split our file first. There are a number of mp3 splitters around.
Audactity seems to do this job as well: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/windows.php .Comment

Re: whole file does not convert
I seriously doubt I'll run into the same situation again. If I did I could just reinstall the old programs that worked before. Still, it seems that it should be able to convert up to my HD's capacity. Right now I've got over 6GB empty on my main drive and 60GB and 20GB available on my other drives. Is it because writing to RAM is so much faster that it runs out the available RAM and stops, terminating the .wav? It just seems odd it would cut the file in two like that without any warning or... no. It's not working if it does that. Something is wrong. Perhaps noone has ever tried to do what I have done (sudden flags and fireworks, patriotic music) but I have gone where dMC cannot go and, for dMC to reach it's fullest potential it must be able to convert an mp3 to a wav and not miss half of it! AMEN! Can I get a hallelujah from the back of the house?!?
I'm still hooked. I just tried your stuff in the last 48hours and I'm uninstalling all sorts of stuff. I've used a couple of programs on the chopping block for over five years. Thanks for making killer stuff but don't expect me to give you a break. This problem shouldn't have happened for me, I don't think. I've got WAY too much available memory to not convert the entire file. Plus for there to be no error... Tisk. Tisk.
Happy Chinese New Year! Or whatever!
and as long as I've got your ear, why do your rips sound better than those by MMJB? They've got the farfednuugeen mp3 codex but you have lame and I did some A/B between your 192kbps and MMJB's 192kbps and the resolution on your lame codec was obviously superior to the MMJB AND your program ripped faster from cd. I'm just staggered. Is the farfednuugen codec that inferior to the LAME codec? What does that say about open source programming v copywrited programming? Feel free to answer these questions with the graduate thesis of your choice.Comment

As for speed, mabye because MMJB cannot compare to the awesomeness of dMC. But in reality, the LAME codec probably encodes faster and you probably have the PowerPack on trial or registered, which means you Rip to RAM and Rip & Encode at once. Both of these speed things up. Another speed booster is setting the priority to "Below Normal" as this keeps the conversion thread and the CD ripping thread from vying for CPU time.Comment

Re: whole file does not convert
Suhweet. So the farfednugget mp3 codex though the original, has now fallen behind the new oddly named LAME codex? Good to know. So considering MMJB sucks ass and eats system resources like an east kentucky trailerpark queen eats twinkies I owe my friend six beers for pointing me at dBPA. Word.Comment

Edit:For AVB read ABR.Last edited by adaywayne; January 24, 2005, 04:52 PM.Comment

Re: whole file does not convert
Yes, I was going the other way, converting a VBR mp3 to a .wav file so I could chop it up and fix some clicks and pops.
I ended up using Musicmatch Jukebox to convert the mp3 to .wav and it did so without a hitch. The odd thing was dMC went to the exact same length each time before stopping. The .wav file created ended cold without any artifacts. I don't do this very often (once a year maybe) so it's not that big a deal. Still, that's the kind of bug designers usually want to know about.Comment
