help with hard freeze old version

    I have version 4.0.0.5.2 from 2001 running on win98se.

I've used it several times with no problem.
However, I tried it with a 505mb stereo wave file, going to
MP3 160kbps and I got a hard freeze and a false disk error.
This happened again on the same file. So far, that is the biggest
file I've ever tried to convert.

I was wondering if this version had a size limit for file conversion,
or maybe I just need to upgrade from a buggy version.

    Thanks,

    Mark

That's a version of what? the dMC program? a codec? I'd say you should upgrade, but now the mp3 encoding codec can only be used if you have the registered PowerPack past the trial period.

It also depends on what type of wav file you are trying to convert.

Ok I found it in a .txt file under 'versions' folder. It says 9a for the
converter program and 3.92 for the lame version.

The 4.0.0... version came from right clicking on the program and
      looking at 'properties'/'product version'.

I've been converting 16bit stereo 44.1 wave files to stereo
      mp3s of various bit rates.

So, is there a file size limit for version 9a? Or does the lame
version have something to do with it?

I'll probably just buy the new one--this one has worked fairly
well, except for files over 505mb apparently. I'm just trying
to nail down the hard freeze problem.

      Thanks,

      Mark

If you ahve upgraded your system in the meanwhile maybe tehre are conflicts.

Maybe you don't have enough memory or resources to process the conversion.

Are you using priority above normal or normal? try changing to below normal.

I have a Pentium IV and about 512 of ram, so I guess that should be enough.
About priority, I guess the Fraunhofer is the one, it is set to 8.
Is that what you are referring to? It says it is decode only.

          Thx,

          Mark

Can you test convert the source file?
