down loaded your checker , all it said was "no adapters". i have two adaptec folders one in control panel with easy cd creator inside, and one on c drive containing aspi. the cdrom drive as listed in device manager is working properly and is assigned drive d: my cd rw is working properly and is assigned drive e: and easy cd creator is still working. thanks for your help so far, hope you can continue to give me possible solutions

Even though that ASPI checker said it was ok, it clearly is not -

***ONLY DO THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SCSI HARD DISK***
I recommend you run that ASPI checker again - make a note of the files it lists - then go into C:\Windows\System and delete just those files (it is ok, aspi is 100% seperate from windows), then click Support >> Audio CD Input and install the ASPI again.
