    AAC to MP3 problem

I am converting a demuxed sound file from a .mkv file. I am trying to convert from .aac to .mp3, and I'm getting the following error.....

The CODEC required to compress 'M:\Video\Movies\House Of Flying Daggers (Chinese)\DEMux\Track2.mp3' could not be opened.

I've installed just about every aac codec from the aac section of codec central. I get the windows 'Tell Microsoft about this problem' window indicating a program fault when I try an .aac to .wav conversion. I've tried both type of conversions with different channel options, but I get the same errors. I'm running XP professional without SP2. I also noticed that windows doesn't recognize the .aac file in explorer after I install the codec, ie. unrecognized file type. Thanks.

Do you also have PowerPack? The codec for encoding to .mp3? The PowerPack is needed for the license for encoding to .mp3.

Unless you re'using dMC version 10 or earlier which had it in by default.

dMC doesn't associate itself with the files it can encode/decode.

Also, try a test convert on your aac file. Does it error out?

        ChristinaS,

        The web page:

states that the power pack should be included as a freeware addition for all DMC installs. Plus, I couldn't find a link for the download for the Power Pack. Am I seeing this right? Thanks for the help. The Power Pack icon is available in the DMC window, with active options.

        LtData,

I tried to run to run the test convert, and I got the same results.

What version of dMC are you using? If you are using r10, I think it is a separate install. If you are using r11, it is included by default.

And since the Test Convert failed, dMC is unable to read your source aac file for whatever reason. Can you play this file in other media players?

Also, note that you have to SEPARATELY install the ENcoder and DEcoder for aac.

You get the PowerPack as trialware or wahtever limited time ware, after which you regsiter it by buying the license from the link at the top of the forum http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc-power-register.htm .

So you don't have the codecs for the .aac file yet apparently.

Hold the mouse over the source audio file, mp3 needs 16 bit stereo, it cannot handle anything else.

                Thanks Spoon,

That's probably it. The source .aac is 134kbps 6 channel. Does any one have any ideas on what to do with this to convert it to any other format?

Convert to wave 2 channels 16 bit, then to .mp3
