if i rip a song from an unscratched perfectly formed cd i have just bought and i rip it as a wav file, is it 100% accurate or not

and if not always can i check the accuracy?

Most of the time CD rips give a near-perfect result. DMC has an "Accurate Rip" feature in which you can compare your ripped CD with what results other got . But it has to be the same CD, so don't expect too many comparisons for the CD

To check for accuracy of ripping you'll have to first check your drive for accuracy in general with one or several key cd's (look into the Accurate rip procedures).

does accuraterip just make a good rip? is there the factor that maybe the CD drive hasn't been cleaned recently or anything like that??

surely when you install a program or load up a file from a cd the CD drive does this 100% accuratly otherwise it wouldent work

why isnt this the case with music ?

Because data CDs have robust error correction, which is why you can only fit 700MB of data onto a CD but 80 minutes of audio.

My apologies for misleading anyone. I should have said that the CD ripping feature of DMC "is compatible with AccurateRip" not that AR was part of it.

Because data CDs have robust error correction, which is why you can only fit 700MB of data onto a CD but 80 minutes of audio.

But isn't it also the case that music in CDA format (16-bit, 44100Hz,stereo) requires only about 8.5MB per minute (not the 10MB usually stated), plus then you have the lead-in and lead-out data to add which does bring the total to almost 700MB for an 80-minute CD?

Audio CDs lack the error correction, if an error is encountered the CD Player will 'fill in the blanks', most of the time you cannot hear it, but on a badly scratched CD you will hear popping.

would cleaning the CD drive with one of the those fat CDs from Staples help the CD drive to read data better?

yeah, i once copied a blur album off a friend but the back of it had all bobbled up and on some of the tracks it would pop and leave blank bits
