Can't find codec needed - please help!

I'm very new to music conversion, and in much need of some help.
I've downloaded some music that lead me to believe was in MP3 format.
When I tried to convert to wav, I discovered that it is in m3u, and I received the following message:
"Support the audio type ".php3?file=617-1100474920-" Might be
    obtained at "Codec Central."

After going to Codec Central, I have not been able to find what I need to convert.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

m3u is not an audio file. It is simply a text file that Points to an audio file or playlist.

      .m3u is a meta file.

Just open the .m3u file in Notepad and inside you'll see the true address of the .mp3 file it points to. That's the one you have to get.
