Codec required to decompress *.mp3 could not be opened

I used to have a free dBpowerAMP converter which worked very well. Since I paid to become a registered user of r11 I am totally lost because each time I want to convert a file I get the following error message:
"The CODEC required to decompress *.mp3' could not be opened."

Please how can I solve this?

What type of file are you trying to convert? What bitrate/frequency does this file have?

In your dMC configuration, do you see the mp3 encoder listed? Does your dMC show as registered? dMC Configuration is in the start menu under programs --> dbPowerAmp Music Converter --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration. Do you have all dbPowerAmp items installed to the same directory?

I am trying to convert an mp3 file, bitrate 128kbps, frequency 44100 to a higher quality mp3 (Variable Bit Rate)

The mp3 encoder listed is Lame version 3.96.1.
dMc release 11 shows as "Registered: Yes".

All dbPowerAmp items are installed in directory Illustrate/dbPowerAmp

You do realize this won't improve the quality of the mp3, right? It is just a waste of space to convert a low-bitrate mp3 to a higher-bitrate mp3.

Now, back to your problem. Can you test-convert the source mp3? (Select Test Conversion (no write) as your codec.)

Edit: Also, what do you see for mp3 decoder?

Test conversion (no write) does not work either.

As mp3 decoder is mentioned "mp3(Lame)".

Can you play your original .mp3 file? In what player? And are you sure it's an .mp3 file or is it an .m3u ?

              Christina

It is mp3 and I can play it in MusicMatch Jukebox 9.0.

The problem is not with one file but with any file and with any decoder (I also tried OggVorbis and WMA).

              Thanks for replying.

Can you test convert any of these source files?

Also, since the test conversion of your mp3 file failed, it seems dMC cannot read that file. How long is the mp3? Do you know if it is 16-bit or 24-bit?

Edit: You see mp3 (Lame) as the mp3 decoder?

Re: Codec required to decompress *.mp3 could not be opened

If you are trying by any chance to convert to mp3 24-bits - that does not work for mp3's. Also too high a frequency. Maybe this is where the error comes from.

Try to just encode to a a higher bitrate and don't change bits of frequency and see what happens.

I am puzzled though by the fact that a test conversion does not work. Is the input .mp3 file protected by chance? Can you play it in Windows Media Player rather than just Musicmatch?

                  ----EDIT----

So it appears I'm losing it! :o Of course there's no bit specification for mp3's, as Adaywayne pointed out to me and which I ought to know and actually do know - only I had a senior blonde moment I guess :D

Anyway, the most likely culprit is really a faulty installation thus an uninstall and a new downlaod and install are in order for all the components.

[COLOR=Navy]If all else fails, try uninstalling and reinstalling DMC.

I reinstalled DMP a few times without success.

I now deleted all old Codecs (those I used with a previous DMP version) and reinstalled DMP and it works again (only slower than the old version).

Thanks for your help and a Merry Christmas.

If it's slower, maybe you have the priority set too high. Set it to below normal.
