Converting protected WMA files to WAV

    Hi,

I have a copy of DMC Version 8d, Power Pack release 3 [not yet registered - 28 days to go!]

    The codecs I have are : - mp3PRO, WMA v8, mp3 Lame and Wave.

I have started to use the Windows Media Player very recently and have ripped to my HD a number of CD's into the WMA file format through WM Player. I own all the CD's. However WM Player will not recognise my ACER CR-R/RW drive so I cannot copy the tracks to my CD drive for compilations etc.

Stay with me, this message does have a point!

So hence the use of the DMC to convert the WMA to a WAV file, then use the NERO CD burning software to write to the CD-RW drive EXCEPT that the DMC will not convert the WMA file becuase it says it is protected. Can I get round this problem?

    Thx

      Razgo,

Many Thx, the post was informative especially

'...Apparently, you have so called "Digital right management" on in your M$ player (it is set on by default), so whatever you rip with it comes out copy protected. Just disable it. BTW, why don't you use professional ripping software, like CDEx (free)? In any case it is always better to keep files in usable formats; nobody knows what's going to happen to wma in a year or two...'

The only problem is I can't find the switch to turn off the Digital Rights Management! Any ideas?

Also Spoon advises to use the dMC software to rip the CD's. Does it have a media library function like WMP. As much as I hate Microsoft I think the Media Library is a pretty useful and neat way of accessing tracks by Album/Artist/Genre etc etc. However I would be more than happy to use dMC as an alternative.

Also does dMC support writing to CD-R/RW direclty or through third party software?

If I do use dMC what is the best format to rip to mp3Pro or something else?

      Thx

      S

It would say it is much better - have a look at dBpowerAMP Audio Player (the Music Converter links in with the Player).

It will be writing its own CDs before November!

Ogg Vorbis is possibly the best - mp3PRO is a waste of time for anything above 96kbps
