    that didn't work....lol....

    and to answer ChristinaS Question...

the file is 4,297kb to be exact...

I'm a little bit lost here (as usual). You say you can play the file in WMP and other players, but what about in dBPowerAmp Player? When you get this "error message" just what are you trying to do....convert it to some other format?.....you didn't say. When you right-click on the file and then left-click on "properties", what information does it give you about the file? You see, I'm still not sure what your problem is, but that is, no doubt, my fault.

          that's what I'm doing...
it was in the header of the post...lol...
and I've never tried it in dbpoweramp player...never thought of that..
I'm not trying to get it to play, just Converting it, that's where the problems arise...
maybe read up the post a bit, that tells all the details, and that will explain...

Re: Errors wilst converting from Wma to Wav

OK, I got the file and it's perfectly playable in WMP 9 (I dont' have WMP 10).

It was encoded with the wma 9.1 encoder at 160kbps, 44.1KHz, stereo, 1 pass CBR. SO basically nothing unusual at all.

I also converted it to wav 16-bit 44.1KHz 2-ch stereo with no problem at all.

I think you probably don't have a proper working version of WMP. Or you don't have the proper codecs for wma.

dAP play this wma file ok as well.

So now, do you want to persist and try to decode your file or do you want me to send you the decoded file? You could download it from my web site and it shoudlbe faster than that other service. But it 37MB and on dial-up it will take you very long to download. Let me know.

I'll keep prodding at it, cause it HAS to be my computer some way or another..
                        I'll uninstall EVERYTHING.... again LOL
and then which version do you suggest?
                        Windows media 9?
and which db version, with which codecs?

like you said, 37mb would take forever to d/l with my turtle lol..
and THANKS for checking the file for me...:-)
now at least I know it's something wrong, and not my brain messing with me!

Uninstall the dMC you have right now and all the codecs you have in relation to it, from Start > Control panel > Add/remove programs

                            Download and install dmC R11.

From Codec central, download and install http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/db-wmfdist-wma9.exe and http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codecs/dBp...odec-wmav9.exe, and then reboot.

The first set of codecs may not be needed because you said you have WMP 10, but this is just in case it's not any good.

You may want to check this thread too: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6128 about the wma 9.1 codecs.

Once the conversions go OK, download and instal dAP and other things you may want.

Here's the pop-up info on that file:

*Skinny does the happy dance* lol..

                              I Un-installed Windows Media player 10,
and rolled back to the old version v9...

                              re-booted, then installed 10 again....
I did Exactly as you said above ChristinaS.. to NO avail.... SOOOOOOOOOO

                              once again, I un-installed 10 again... lol....
back to square one..with Windows Media Player v9...
then un-installed Dbpoweramp converter and all the codecs....
then went to the registry and deleted the key Illistrate....
                              then re-booted again....
so here I am, starting all over....back with Windows Media v9
I went into program files, and windows media player to see if there were anything wrong there, and Wah-lah... I found my problem!!!!!
it had 3 of these files, exactly the same... except 1 was for Windows Media 9
and the other 2 was for 10....
                              "mpvis.dll"
so I deleted the 2 that were for 10....

this may have been my problem all along, who knows! lol...
if I would have known to look there, I could have just kept one file "10", and deleted the others....
                              but...
                              then I re-installed Dbpoweramp converter 9...
                              and installed Wma codec "db-wmfdist95"
and then installed Wma v9.1 codec, and did a Hard boot (shut down)...
                              tried the file once again...
                              and it WORKED!!! YAY lol....
so I'm leaving it like it is......;-)

so anyone having this problem with the error in this post above, that's what to try first...lol....
look for the file named above "mpvis.dll", you should only have one in the Program files/Windows Media Player folder....

and Christina, THANK YOU BUNCHES for your help....:-)))))
                              Hugs,

Jeez, that WMP 10 as well as XP & SP2 are causing no end of troubles for everybody it seems.

Just you wait, I'm going to install all that myself soon and then the dance will begin for real :D
