Re: is there a converter to midi files??
No, because midi is not an audio format as such. But you can use dMC AUxiliary Input to record the audio generated by a midi file through your sound card as explained in http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=2213 and http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5362Originally posted by julduljust wondering if there was a codec for midi files -
Re: is there a converter to midi files??
there is a prog called amazingmidi, but it doesnt really works.
If the track has no much bass or sth like that it might works.
//tucows.com :
Information:
This program automatically transcribes music, converting WAV files into MIDI files. It can recognize single-instrument polyphonic music. Even if the music contains several different instruments, the program writes down all detected notes as a single-instrument music.
The quality of music recognition depends on the tone color of the music. The program is suitable for analyzing the precise-frequency attenuating sounds like piano or guitar. The drum sound becomes only noise.

Re: is there a converter to midi files??
Unfortunately none of these prorgrams (which are quite numerous actually) converts the midi produced sound to anything even close to the original. At best they can be used to isolate and transcribe the melody, as it detects it among all the other sounds. It will render the melody by using a single instrument which you can define in the parameters, usually piano. Even at a stated accuracy of 95% it sounds like a very poor attempt to reproduce the melody on a piano, by an quite untrained would-be pianist (ahem... like myself :D ).Originally posted by chill[Unreged]there is a prog called amazingmidi, but it doesnt really works.

Users generally want to have an exact replica of the audio produced from a midi file, in all its glory. Not possible except by recording that sound as it is being played through the soundcard.Comment
