Re: fraunhofer MP3 codec
The only way the fraunhofer codec can improve on mp3 is via propietary means that will break mp3 support with current players. Mp3 itself is a loseless codec and adding special features, such as multi-channel or "better sound" will not change that and keep the mp3 playable in the current software.
You should be fine using other mp3 encoders. If you want the mp3 to sound better, pick a higher bitrate or try VBR.Last edited by LtData; November 13, 2004, 06:07 AM.Comment

Re: fraunhofer MP3 codec
I'm encoding many of these files to be played on my portable MP3 player, are you saying they won't play if I encode them with the fraunhofer MP3 codec?
Best wishes,

Using the fraunhofer codec doesn't mean they won't play, unless you enable features in that codec that aren't generally acceptable, such as 5.1 sound or 24-bit.
If you just change the bitrate and leave it stereo, it will still play just fine.Comment
