Can I use the .au format for the music on my homepage? Where do I get the AU format coder?

I've been hoping someone would come along who would know the answers to this offhand. It does seem to me that to answer your first question it might be good to know about your homepage and the specifications of both the service provider hosting your home page and the software being used to create your home page. If you can find that out, it might be helpful.

You mean as background audio? I'd opt for embedding wma actually, as small a file as you can muster, lo-fi, say 20kbps or at most 32kbps.

As usual, check that you're not breaking any copyright laws when using media files on the web.

Ok, I think you mean .au instead of aux when referring to an audio file format.

Why do you want to change from .wma to .au? .wma format is perfect for the web. There is no codec to encode to .au apparently at Codec Central so that option is out any way. There is a codec to decode from .au however.

Were you thinking of using .au because you saw an example of a way to embed an .au file? The same exact thing can be done for .wma usually.

[COLOR=darkorange]Warning: Even if it's free music that doesn't mean you can just use it on your web site without having been granted permission by the author, it may still break copyright rules. It may be free for you to download and use privately only. A web site is anything but private unless nobody but registered users can get in. Also don't mistake music you just happend to find and happened to be able to download as free. It may not be the case. I'm not trying to be a nag, I'm only telling you this because webhosting contracts specifically forbid content that breaks copyright laws among other things, and there could be serious legal consequences, worse than what's involved in any of the so-called illegal P2P sites.[/COLOR]
