    dalet conversion

... I'm finding the Dalet (.snd) to Wav (44.1/16) conversion sounds poor... a little boxy.

Also, I can only get the CD to Dalet conversion to do 8:1.. where I work in 4:1 (or 5:1 maybe.. I cant remember....)

    anyone?

    Re: dalet conversion

    For what its worth:
The Dalet codec recommends that it works best with Release 11 of Music Converter and later. This is the current Release Candidate 1 available from the Beta Test section of this forum.

I've just tried it. The Endcoding options are for either 32 kHz or 48 kHz and at bitrates (for either frequency) of 192, 256 or 384 kbs.
    At 48 kHz and 384 kbs I get a 3:1 file, at 256 kbs and 48 kHz I get 5:1.
Conversion to Wav seems ok (but I was only using a file I had created from the same codec.

Do you not get the same options?

    Best wishes,

If converting between frequencies, switch on the Professional Frequency Conversion option.

On further research, I've noticed that the Dalet Codec is mis-calculating the compression ratio information in the file tags. A file converted at 384 kbs, 32 kHz was reported to have a compression ratio of 2.6:1 when it actually was 3.67:1, the same file converted at 384 kbs, 48 kHz reported a compression ratio of 3:1 with an actual compression ratio of 3.67:1. At 256 kbs and 32 kHz. the ratio was reported as being 3:1 but was actually 5.5:1. (256 kbs, 48 kHz produced essentially the same compression ratio).

So if you are comparing compression ratios, don't rely on the tag information at this stage.

        Best wishes,
