Different Ids for the same CD

    Hello,

The size of the freedb database is getting bigger & bigger.
The same CD appears different times with different IDs (but as re-entered, with slightly different names or track titles). I thought there was unicity between ID and CD.

Is'nt it possible that in the case dMC does not find the CD-ID in the database, then a new search in the database is started, asking to the user the artist and/or album name ?

This would avoid that the same disk appears 10 times or more.

And even if the search is slower that the original one (based on ID), it would be quicker than entering again the titles...

    Any idea ?

The reason you see multiple CDs listed in freedb is for a few reasons.
One is that there are different CD pressings that have a slightly different disk ID.
Another is that people don't retrieving the titles but just type them in.

The freedb ID calculation has a flaw, ie many discs can have the same ID - when I designed AccurateRip the ID was 3 times larger to try to overcome this.

And what about searching in the DB using the author/album title, not only the ID ?
