Recent Conversion Issues

Just within the last week or so, DMC has had problems converting between formats. Namely, from 96kHz 24 bit WAV to 44.1kHz 16 bit WAV, and then also to MP3. I haven't had issues before. I tried uninstalling DMC and then re-installing, but that did not change anything. When I click "convert to" the converting to box opens as normal, but the progress bar does not do anything for about 40 seconds, and then it declares that the conversion is finished, but the resulting file (while it may have the proper extension) is only a couple of bytes in size.

What gives?

I have some examples saved if you'd like to view them. One example of how this is definitely not working right is a 96kHz WAV that is originally 243 MB in size being converted to a 44 BYTE "cd quality" file that nothing can open.

First, did you try enabling "Professional Frequency Conversion" in the dMC Configuration window? Also, have you tried a test conversion to make sure dMC can read and understand the file?

Yes to both questions. Here's the deal: DMC used to convert from 96 kHz to 44.1 and from WAV to MP3, but now it doesn't. It spits out a small 44 byte file with the correct flag, but so garbled that nothing will play it.

You used to be able to convert a 96 khz wav to 44.1 khz wav and now you can't. Is this right? You can test convert the 96 khz wav but not convert it to 44.1 khz wav. Is this right? You have Professional Frequency Conversion enabled.
Is this an issue with just one file or have you tried other 96 khz wav files and you get the same result?

Can you check on and report the bit setting for your 96 khz wav and the number of channels of your 96 khz wav (and your designated settings for your output 44.1 kHz wav)? It may be that your problem could be related to these settings, especially if some 96 kHz wav files (say those in 16 bit, 2 channels) will convert and some will not.

In a case where you were able to perform and operation and now you can't, one tends to suspect either that there is something up with the file you are working with OR that something is going on with dB Music Converter (you might have changed a setting, installed something that might be interfering with Music Converter or changed something in your system or some part of Music Converter might be somehow corrupted).

If Test Conversion of your file works and if this is a problem with all 96 kHz wav files,
I would recommend you uninstall and reinstall Music Converter. There are some advantages to following Spoon's suggestion to install the release 11 beta but if yoour version worked before then logically it should work again.

So check out the bit setting and channel issues and try the uninstall/reinstall process and let us know how you make out and what results you get from your investigations.
