24 Bit (again)

I am missing something (not an uncommon thing for me).

Trying to rip a song from a CD in cda format to MP3 Lame.
In the PowerPack i have volume normalize and DSP 24 bit active (left side of
screen).

Running the CD-RIP program, i can see in the converter the DSP, Normalise and
24 bit being applied. After thats done, I get a msg as:

"The CODEC required to compress 'E:\NM3\Track09.mp3' could not be opened."

Note the word "compress" in above msg.
and the program stops.

I dont see anywhere to set or turn off a compression anywhere.
Do I need to use a different output format? I tried Monkey and OGG but no
help there.

With a little help, i'll figure out this 24 bit thing yet.

I don't know offhand whether mp3 accepts 24 bit or not. I also need to check to see what the 24 bit option in the dMC dsp does, which I cannot do until later (you couold check your dMC Help file regarding dSP effects)
I would think your best bet would be to rip to 24 bit wav at 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz and then try converting the wav to mp3.
If that does not work, try turning off the 24 bit dsp effect to see if that makes any difference.

Output to wav did work with the 24 bit DVD setting for output.
Will try with 16 bit and the DSP 24. Want to try the 5 channel thing too.
Will also see what happens when its converted to MP3.

I looked in the dmc help before i posted but nothing there about 24 bit
processing. Iwill normally check the help and/or search before bothering people
and sometimes its faster.

OK, It definately does not do the multi-channel (5) thing at all with 24 bits.

Would not convert the 24 dvd bit to mp3, errored off.

So it appears that its having growing pains and i'm sure future releases will
have something to allow multi-channel (more than 2), and enhanced conversion
processes. Just a matter of time.

If your source is 16 bit, then don't use the 24 bit dsp effect (unless you are doing some processing), anyhow for mp3 you need the 16 bit dither as the last one.
