One last note:
I am struck by the fact that your system could not convert the 96 kHz wav while my system could. If you are trying conversion to a different frequency from your source file (as in this case), enabling Professional Frequency Conversion often makes a significant difference. This is set at the dMC Configuration window (Start>All Programs> dBpowerAMP Music Converter> Configuration> dMC Configuration).
