The CODEC required to compress could not be opened.

    Hello,

    I get the message:
The CODEC required to compress '...file...' could not be opened.
if I try to convert *.wav to *.mp3.

I use dbpowerAMP 10.1 without PP.
I already updated the LAME Codec, but it still does not work.

The file I want to convert has a bitrate of 2822 kBit/s, 32 Bit, Stereo and 44 kHz and is uncompressed WAVE.
I tried already [as source], Stereo, Joint Stereo by [as source] 44.1 kHz and 8 kHz. VBR and CBR.

    Thanks.

Is that a PCM wav at all?
Can you play it in Windows Media PLayer? Any other player?

Try a test conversion first (use Test Conversion (no write) instead of a codec). I think the problem is that it is a 32-bit wave.

You may have to do a step-wise conversion.
    1) First convert to wav 44.1 KHz, 2-Stereo, 16-bit
    2) Convert the resulting wav to mp3

Or you may have to record it using dMC Auxiliary Input.

Or it may be useful to enable Professional Frequency, but you'll need the PowerPack.

Yes it is playable with all media players.
      The test conversion works too.

But how can I convert to 16 Bit?

        Okay fine.
I convert to Wave 16 Bit, 44.1 kHz and Stereo.

        Good, it works!

Okay, next time I will force 16 Bit.

        Thanks for support.
        (I love dbpowerAMP! ^^)

          Hi,

I have the same error popping up, but not the same success with the solution posed. Going from wav to mp3 I can only use constant bit rate. If I try ABR or VBR, I get the error. I have updated the lame codec, but it was doing this before I updated as well.

          Any insights?

          Thanks so much!

What was the bit setting, frequency and number of channels of your source wav file?

              16bit, 8000, 1 channel

I'm working on a talk that was recorded on one of those digital voice recorders.

Thanks for taking a look at this...

Your frequency of 8000Hz is maybe too low to allow to jump directly to an mp3 using VBR or ABR.

Try to convert to 16-bit, 44.1 KHz wav (PCM), not compressed, maybe even 2-channel stereo (not sure if mono would work) and after that convert to the mp3 of your choice.

In any case, you should try to use Professional Frequency.

What settings are you trying to use for your output mp3 files (bits, bitrate, frequency, channels)?

I suspect Christina is correct in thinking that an intermediate conversion may be required but I am not sure what intermediate conversion would work best in your case. These questions cannot be answered definitively until we know about your desired output.

You may also want to check one of Bill's suggestions to somebody having odd sampling rate conversion problems at http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showpost...0&postcount=17 of using ain intermediate conversion to wma lossless.

                      Hello everyone!

I'm just wondering if they fixed the problem requiring an intermediate conversion to 16-bit WAV before converting to MP3.

                      Thanks!

"They", meaning Spoon, have not announced anything on this yet, unless it's in the Beta forum and I've missed it.

Not yet, should be added to 11.1 beta (fairly soon).

I can hear the input and the test recording shows up fine. 44.1 16 bits and stereo. Hope someone out there can help me

What format are you trying to convert from? What is the frequency of the file?
