A question on batch converting

The problem i'm having is i'm getting skips, hiss and cracks(?) during batch
conversion of WAV to MP3 files (granted the WAV files are nowhere near CD
quality).
This normally shows up during the first 10/15 seconds of playback of the
converted files but can occur randomly throughtout the music also.

The input WAV files are 24 kbps, 12 khz, aat 16 bit.
The output is CD quality - 192kbps, 24 khz, at 16 bit.

This happens during playback in 3 different players (Winamp, dBpowerAmp
player and the Creative player).

However, when i use the AUX converter for each song and "What U Hear" as
the recording device, it plays great after converting with no problems....

So, am i doing something wrong or is the problem with batch conversions?

My first thought would be to check to see if the same problems appear with single conversions. I would also ask that you check to make sure that you have Professional Frequency Conversion enabled from the dMC Window. My other question is to wonder what you are doing with 12 kHz wav files and 24 kHz mp3 files.

So check out these first two items, if you haven't already.
Also, what priority are you giving your conversion. You may find changing priority for your conversion to normal or below normal (if it is set High or above normal) may help as well.

Input files are .wav at 24kbps? Are they compressed mpeg-3 wav?

I don't seem to see a setting for mp3 (Lame) @ 192kbps and 24KHz. The highest Lame goes is to 160kbps.

So they are Mp3 compressed format.

I found a couple old songs that were legal to download....

Tried a single conversion and it still has the "noise" in it.
The priority is set to normal.

My bad (have to get my eyes checked i guess)- not 24 khz but 44100.

Professional Frequency Conversion enabled from the dMC Window - which
window, i dont see it anywhere but i do see "Studio Quality".

Of course, i can always do the "What U Hear" via AUX Converter but aside
from time, was wondering if its something i'm doing or something with the
batch process..

I feel like i'm digging a hole thats over my head.
Now i cant even get the AUX to convert with getting -

Error whilst running DSP effect, lack of disk space? Temp file 'E:\NM2\DMC.Tmp'

every time.

OK, I just converted your mpeg layer-3 compressed wav file to mp3(Lame) using Stereo, 44100Hz, 192kbps, and for the Advanced Options I used Constant Bit Rate, Quality=No preset, Set bits=original. These are my settings of choice usually when I convert to PCM WAV .

It worked fine, no pops or crackles.

I also did another test converting the file first to PCM wav, not compressed, 16-bit, 44.1KHz, 2-Channel stereo - worked out fine. Compressed this one to mp3(Lame) with the same parameters as above, again, no problem. The two mp3 files are almost the same size (but not exactly, since arrived at by different means).

The only difference i see is my advanced settings of:
variable bit rate
Quality = CD
Set Bits = (all blank (none selected).

Ok, I did rename properly - I think????? who knows!

I didn't try with variable bit rate for the resulting mp3 file. Frankly, I don't use that setting much. But as I explained I did it, it worked for me, it should also work for you.

I also just tried VBR, different presets (CD, also Studio). They all work fine, sometimes slower to convert than others.

I am always using priority Below Normal.

Not sure how the priority fits into things. I never have any other apps running
during a conversion unless i'm using the AUX.

If i can ask one more - whats the difference between a PCM Wave and a
normal wave?
